Find Your Sound · Free Specialist Bridge · LEARN + APPLY
AI can recognize labels. Your job is to understand what makes the music behave like itself—then decide which traits your project needs, what can change and what would make the result miss the lane.
This free hub sits inside Find Your Sound. Finish here with a usable Genre Control Brief v1.
Build My Free Genre Control BriefI know the problem, not the genreTHE SIX-LENS CHECK
Where is the pulse? What is straight, swung, syncopated, broken, pushed or laid back?
How do kick and bass share space? Is bass sustained, mobile, percussive, sub-heavy or melodic?
Is harmony rich, sparse, repetitive, modal, chord-driven, riff-driven or mostly implied?
Which instrument roles and textures carry identity? Name functions before collecting instrument names.
How does density, energy, repetition and contrast change across sections?
What must have space: lead vocal, rap, chant, soloist, dance groove, atmosphere or another focal element?
BOUNDARIES
A useful genre brief names the nearest wrong answer. UK Garage may drift toward straight House. Gqom can become overfilled. Jersey Club can collapse into a triplet-kick effect. Cumbia can disappear inside an unspecified “Latin” blend. Bachata can become romantic Pop with guitar. Bluegrass can become generic Country when ensemble roles disappear. Footwork can become random fast percussion when its cells stop being learnable. Highlife can be flattened into Afrobeats when its ensemble interlock is lost.
If this starts sounding too much like ________, I will check ________ first.

What are you making, for whom, and what should the genre contribute?
Use one primary genre family. Add a secondary influence only when you can state its job.
Capture groove, low end, harmony, palette, arrangement and foreground.
Name three traits that must survive every generation or revision.
What neighboring style could it drift toward? What would make you reject a polished result?
Use the A–Z Genre Prompt Reference for vocabulary, but keep the musical brief platform-independent.
