Translate your song architecture into Suno.

This page does not own the JR structure method. Start with Song Structure Engineering and a clear section map. Use this reference only to translate those decisions into Suno's current lyrics, style, exclusion and editing workflow.

Current transition · Suno v6

There is no confirmed new v6 meta-tag grammar. Suno describes v6 as better at understanding musical language and structure, and its current workflow also supports section-level editing in plain language. That changes how much work a bracketed cue may need to do, but it does not make older structure guidance automatically obsolete.

Keep useful v5.5-era examples as evidence of what was tested then. Where the same cue still works in v6, preserve it and mark it current once verified. Where v6 behaves differently, add the new result beside the older record. Where behavior has not been tested, label it needs v6 validation rather than deleting the older guidance.

Do not assume v6 · Pro, v6-wild · Pro and v6-mini interpret local cues with identical adherence. We will only make model-specific claims after controlled testing.

The translation rule

Architecture first. Syntax second. A bracketed cue is a generative signal, not a deterministic command. If you switch platforms, your section jobs, energy movement, protected traits and diagnosis should still make sense.

Three layers of structure control

1. Global direction

Put the overall genre relationship, groove, vocal identity, production character and energy arc in the broader Style/direction layer. Do not force the full production brief into every bracket.

2. Section location

Use clear section labels such as [Verse], [Chorus], [Bridge] and [Outro] to establish where a section begins and what structural role it serves.

3. Local cue or edit

Add a concise local cue only when that section needs a specific change. Once a strong song exists, a targeted section edit may be a better tool than adding more prompt syntax.

Keep the evidence separate

Record which Suno model/version produced the result. Older v5.5 evidence and new v6 testing can both remain useful without being blended into one undocumented claim.

Common section cues

[Intro]

Establish motif, mood or sonic world. Do not assume the cue alone determines length.

[Verse]

Locate a verse. Its actual job comes from the writing, density, groove and arrangement around it.

[Pre-Chorus]

Signal a transition toward the hook. Reinforce with genuine anticipation or contrast.

[Chorus]

Signal the central return/payoff. A bigger chorus still needs hook, density or production contrast.

[Bridge]

Signal a contrasting section. Make the contrast audible in viewpoint, harmony, texture, rhythm, foreground or density.

[Break] / [Build] / [Drop]

Useful for density and energy movement when the musical lane supports those functions. Do not import them into every genre.

[Outro]

Signal a landing. Define what resolves, strips back, repeats or changes.

Local performance cue

Use one concise instruction only when it changes that section: foreground, intensity, texture, density or instrumentation.

What not to do

  • Do not treat a long list of brackets as a finished arrangement.
  • Do not repeat global genre and production direction inside every section.
  • Do not put long planning prose beside singable lyrics when a short local cue will do.
  • Do not add several contradictory cues and then diagnose the model as the only problem.
  • Do not regenerate a strong song globally when one local section is the actual failure.

Needs v6 validation

The following are intentionally not being promoted to permanent v6 rules yet: whether dense bracket stacks help or interfere; how reliably local performance cues stay local; whether v6-wild follows the same structural cues as v6 Pro; how cues such as [End] and [Instrumental Break] behave; and whether local vocal instructions are consistently confined to the intended section.

The deeper APPLY exercise will be expanded with controlled v6 evidence after we test the same lyrics and brief across simple section labels, one local cue, a dense legacy-style cue stack and global Style instructions.

Suno Translation Notes

Before generating, record: the Suno model/version used; the external section map; which decisions are global; which are local; which Suno field carries each decision; the structural labels used; the local cues used; any exclusion used; the three structural traits to protect; the local repair path if one section fails; and whether a claim comes from an earlier v5.5 record or a current v6 test.

Transition rule: preserve useful earlier Suno evidence, re-contextualize what was written as current, validate v6 behavior before replacing older observations, then extend the reference.
