How to Remove Vocals from a Suno Song: 2026 Stems Guide
Use Get Stems → Split from Mix and select the vocal or voice. Suno returns the isolated vocal plus a complementary mix containing everything else—your instrumental or backing track.

Do not confuse “instrumental” goals: removing vocals from an existing song uses stems. Creating a brand-new instrumental is a generation task.
The three stem modes
Split from Mix, Auto Split and Advanced Split
Split from Mix
Pull one selected voice or instrument from the song. Suno also creates the complementary track containing everything except the selected part.
- Best for: vocals, acapellas and instrumentals
- Current credit note: 10 credits per extraction; 20 total for both outputs
- Use first: when your task is simply “remove the vocal”
Auto Split
Analyzes the whole song and separates it into as many as 12 detected stem categories such as drums, bass, guitar and keyboards.
- Best for: fast multistem preparation
- Current credit note: 50 credits per extraction
- Tradeoff: automatic labels are not always perfect
Advanced Split
Lets you choose from a large instrument list when you need more specific separation than Auto Split provides.
- Best for: granular production work
- Current credit note: 10 credits per extraction; 20 total for both outputs, per requested stem
- Not necessary: for a basic vocal removal

Step-by-step workflow
Remove or isolate the vocal with Split from Mix
Choose the correct source
Open the exact version you want to separate. Preserve its version/provenance and play the chorus and densest section first so you know what the stem tool must handle.
Open Get Stems
Use the song’s More Actions (…) menu and select Get Stems. Choose Split from Mix instead of requesting every detected stem when vocal isolation is the actual job.
Select the vocal target
Choose the available vocal or voice option. If the song has lead, backing and choir layers, note which elements Suno groups together.
Generate both outputs
The first output is the selected vocal. The complement contains everything else and functions as the instrumental/backing track.
Preview the hardest section
Check the hook, harmonies, consonants, reverberant tails and any section where the vocal overlaps strongly with instruments.
Choose by intended use
Keep the isolated vocal for an authorized acapella/edit/analysis workflow. Keep the complementary mix when your goal is a backing track or replacement-vocal session.
Know which output is which

Quality expectations
Current Suno stems are matched regenerations
Suno explains that its updated system regenerates each requested stem to match the source instead of simply cutting frequency bands out of the finished mix. This can produce cleaner material, but the stem is not guaranteed to be a sample-perfect copy of the original performance.
Troubleshooting
Fix the actual vocal-isolation problem

Export and DAW handoff
Preserve a clean production trail
- Keep the original full mix untouched.
- Prefer WAV when further editing, alignment or mastering matters.
- Use descriptive filenames with song, source version, target and extraction date.
- Confirm project tempo before aligning stems elsewhere, especially if the source has tempo drift.
- Archive the prompt, lyrics, source/version evidence and permission context alongside the output.

Separation does not create permission
Only upload, separate, remix or reuse music you own or have permission to use. Technically isolating a vocal or instrument does not transfer copyright, ownership or commercial rights.
Safe operating rule: preserve proof of your source, permission/subscription context, lyrics and human contributions before releasing or distributing a new version.

#54 is complete when the untouched source is preserved, provenance/permission is recorded, the intended vocal target and use are explicit, the hardest section has been checked against the source, the correct output has been selected by evidence, and the Vocal Extraction Record v1 is complete.
