Using AI Safely as a Young Creator
AI can help you experiment quickly. Good creators also know when to protect information, ask permission, check a claim and stop before sharing something publicly.
You do not need to be afraid of AI. You do need a few habits that help you stay in control.
Five habits to keep with you
A voice and image belong to a real person. Do not clone, imitate or upload someone else’s voice, face or private recording without appropriate permission.
AI can sound confident and still be wrong. If a fact matters to your project, schoolwork, health, safety, history or another person, verify it with a reliable human or source.
You can experiment privately and still decide not to post, release or share the result. Publishing is a separate choice.
If material seems private, culturally sensitive, personal, unsafe or confusing, stop and ask a parent, guardian, teacher or trusted adult before uploading or publishing it.
A simple check before you upload
Is it mine to share? Do I have permission? Does it contain private information? Could it affect another person? Do I understand what the tool may do with it?
If you cannot answer one of those questions yet, you can wait. Waiting is a creative decision too.
Platform rules matter
Different AI tools have different age limits, account rules, privacy policies and terms. Those rules can change. Use tools that are appropriate for your age and situation, and get parent, guardian, teacher or school approval when required.
The JR Youth Creator Lab teaches a process that can travel between tools. You never need one specific platform to complete the learning path.
One more creator habit: give credit
If another person helped write, perform, record, research or shape your project, keep track of that contribution. If you use material you did not create, make sure you understand whether you have permission to use it.
You do not need a complicated legal document for every experiment. Start by recording who contributed what and what you received permission to use.
Start basic contribution and source notes in the free My AI Music Creator Record. When you reach Level 3, use My Finish & Share Record to complete your contributor, source and permission record.
If something goes wrong
You can stop using the tool, save your notes without publishing, tell a trusted adult, remove material you should not have uploaded where the platform allows it, and choose a different way to continue the project.
Good creative judgment includes knowing when not to generate, upload or publish.
