The Operator: Human Judgment at the Centre of Core Squared
The Operator is not simply the person pressing the button. The Operator is the person responsible for what happens before, during and after the button is pressed.
What you will be able to do
- Identify decisions AI must not make independently.
- Document meaningful human contribution.
- Verify important claims and dependencies.
- Accept or reject AI-supported recommendations.
- Approve and explain the next action.
The five Operator responsibilities
1. Direction
The Operator chooses the Flame. AI may generate possibilities, but it does not decide which idea deserves the creator’s time, identity or public commitment.
2. Verification
The Operator completes Rock by checking facts, sources, rights, risks, platform terms and professional requirements.
3. Control
The Operator controls the Cycle: test scope, prompts, references, edits, versions, reviewers and stopping point.
4. Placement
The Operator approves the House: what becomes public, private, commercial, maintained or archived.
5. Accountability
The Operator can explain what AI contributed, what the human changed, what was checked, why the result was approved and what happens next.
What AI can and cannot do

Human contribution is more than prompting
Your contribution may include choosing the purpose, supplying original material, setting constraints, editing, rejecting outputs, arranging versions, verifying claims, documenting sources, testing with people and approving the final result. Record the work that materially shaped the outcome.
Common beginner mistakes
- Treating confident AI language as authority.
- Publishing before deciding who owns verification.
- Keeping no record of human choices and revisions.
- Using audience reaction as the only ethical or factual test.
- Approving a result because too much time has already been spent.
Phase 1 completion standard
You complete Phase 1 when you can show a Flame Statement, Rock Check, Cycle Test Record, House Placement Decision and Operator Decision Record for one real idea.
What happens next
