NEXT SOUND Awards 2026: Submission Guide & Song Quality Checklist

JACK RIGHTEOUS · INDEPENDENT ENTRY GUIDE · UPDATED NOVEMBER 4, 2026

A competition pass gets you through the entry door. It does not make your song stronger. Before you submit to NEXT SOUND, choose your best work, fix the problem that actually matters, and document the rights and creative choices behind it.

This guide is about submission readiness: what NEXT SOUND asks for, how to evaluate your music against the published criteria, and where to get practical help from Jack Righteous if you want another set of ears. For a comparison with other competitions, see our complete AI Music Awards 2026 guide and still-open awards submission checklist.

NEXT SOUND 2026 at a glance
  • Entry deadline: December 1, 2026, at 23:59 UTC.
  • First single: one eligible standalone MP3 entry is free. Other entry options involve paid passes.
  • LP: one coherent release containing 8–16 distinct MP3 tracks.
  • Genres: Pop, Electronic, Cinematic or Experimental; select one.
  • Judging: 80% professional jury and 20% validated, adjusted audience ratings.
  • Prizes: the organizer advertises ten gross cash awards of US$1,000 each, subject to its rules.

These are the organizer's published 2026 terms, not a promise of eligibility, prizes or individual outcomes. Review the official Competition Rules before submitting.

1. Is your music eligible?

NEXT SOUND requires at least one AI tool to have meaningfully contributed to music creation or production. That might involve composition, arrangement, sound design, vocals, editing, mixing or mastering. The tool does not have to be generative. AI used only for cover art, metadata or administration is not enough.

You must be at least 18, use one NEXT SOUND account, and own or control—or have the necessary permissions for—the recording, music, lyrics, vocals, samples, performances and submitted artwork. Previously released music may qualify if its rights and agreements permit the competition's uses. One strong, rights-cleared song is a better starting point than submitting many versions simply because you can.

2. Test the song before you submit

NEXT SOUND says its jury evaluates musical quality, originality, artistic direction, emotional impact, coherence, production, and how the AI-assisted process serves the music. Rather than treating those as abstract words, listen to your best candidate three times with a different question each time.

Listen 1: Does it mean something?

What makes the song recognizable as your creative direction? Is its hook, message or atmosphere memorable? Does a listener feel the intended emotion?

Listen 2: Does it hold together?

Do the intro, development, transitions and ending serve one idea? Is the strongest moment earned? Is the genre choice honest, rather than chosen because it sounds fashionable?

Listen 3: Can it survive close listening?

Check obvious clipping, harshness, unfinished edits, inconsistent vocals, unwanted artifacts, weak balance and an abrupt ending. Compare with the original keeper on headphones and another everyday speaker.

Record one decision

Write down the strongest version, its defining quality, the biggest weakness and the smallest practical change. Keep the earlier file so you can reverse course.

Example: Your chorus is emotionally strong, but the final transition cuts off awkwardly. Don't immediately regenerate the entire song or reach for louder mastering. Preserve the keeper, try a controlled ending repair if your tool supports it, and compare the result against the original. If the repair damages the performance, keep the earlier version. Better judgement beats more generations.

This is a Jack Righteous preparation method, not NEXT SOUND's official judging scorecard. No guide, purchase, consultation or paid pass can guarantee higher scores.

3. Build a submission packet that you can explain

  1. Choose one final version. Save the exact MP3, version name and date; check NEXT SOUND's upload form for current technical and file-size limits.
  2. Select your category. Decide among Pop, Electronic, Cinematic or Experimental based on the finished music, not only the generator prompt.
  3. Document the AI process. List the tools used and what each contributed. Be accurate about human lyrics, edits, performances, selections and production work.
  4. Check rights and consent. Confirm the status of third-party melodies, samples, voice models, artwork, collaborators and any distribution agreements.
  5. Prepare accurate metadata. Have your artist name, track or LP title, country and optional artwork ready. The submission form may display further technical limits.
  6. Read the licence before agreeing. NEXT SOUND asks for a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free five-year licence for hosting, streaming and Awards promotion. Music ownership remains with the creator, but the promotional uses and early-removal limits deserve attention.
  7. Submit through the official platform. Sign in to NEXT SOUND's submission page, select Single or LP, complete the form, accept the current rules and retain your confirmation. The first eligible standalone single is free.
Stop before uploading if: you cannot document permission for a sampled recording, cloned voice, borrowed vocal or other restricted material; you cannot explain what AI contributed; or the song still contains a production problem you've already identified.

4. Three Jack Righteous guides worth using first

These existing public articles help with three separate decisions. You do not need to buy anything to work through the core checklist above.

  1. Choose the keeper: AI Music Candidate Selection — Choose the Version That Deserves to Continue. Use it when several generated versions sound promising and you're struggling to identify the strongest one.
  2. Repair the weakest layer: How to Improve a Suno Song — Editing, Stems & Mastering Workflow. Use it when you need to distinguish a writing or arrangement problem from a mixing or final-polish problem. Its Suno examples are tool-specific, but the diagnosis is useful more broadly.
  3. Check eligibility and permissions: Can You Enter the AI Music Awards With a Suno Song? 2026 Eligibility Checklist. Especially useful for Suno creators who need to separate commercial-use permissions, copyright questions and individual award rules.

5. Want experienced guidance on the song before entering?

Sometimes the next improvement is obvious; sometimes you need someone to listen to the problem, challenge your choice of version and help decide what to change. My work at Jack Righteous is about creator direction, practical feedback and a useful next decision—not selling a guaranteed award outcome.

A focused project consultation can help you bring one real song and one specific blocker to the table: Is this the right keeper? Should the hook change? Is a vocal inconsistency worth repairing? Are the arrangement and ending doing their job? Which rights and submission questions still need checking? You can then apply the recommendations using the tools and rights you actually have.

Review Complete Access and consultation terms

Prefer to work independently first? The Master the Single interactive workbook gives you a structured one-song finishing route. Existing members should use resources already included in their access rather than buy them twice.

Scope: Consultations are educational project guidance, not included done-for-you audio engineering, guaranteed professional mastering, legal clearance, NEXT SOUND application approval or favorable judging. Check the live offer and support terms for actual access and booking.

6. Then choose your entry route

Submitting your first eligible single?

Start with the free entry allowance and the official rules. There is no reason to buy a paid pass solely to submit that first eligible standalone track.

Submitting an LP or additional entries?

Check whether a paid LP or Unlimited Competition Pass fits your release. NEXT SOUND offers eligible new participants referred by Jack Righteous a 10% discount on applicable paid Competition Passes. The referral offer is separate from music quality and has no effect on judging.

Visit NEXT SOUND with the JR partner offer

Discount eligibility and final checkout totals are controlled by NEXT SOUND. Verify the offer before paying. You can always review the official awards overview and FAQs without buying a pass.

7. Keep the wider awards picture in view

NEXT SOUND is one option, not the entire AI music awards landscape. Read the complete 2026 awards comparison if you want to compare competitions, or the still-open deadline and preparation checklist if your priority is deciding which entries remain possible before 2027. The guides are deliberately different: this page helps you prepare one stronger NEXT SOUND submission.
