Canadian Thanksgiving 2026 has passed. Instead of pretending we know which day paid the most, use this Friday-to-Monday comparison to review actual delivery results, understand what might have changed, and plan your next holiday shift. Friday, October 9: compare against a normal Friday
Friday evening is a sensible baseline because restaurant-delivery activity may still resemble a regular weekend before holiday closures and gatherings change the mix. That does not establish that Friday 2026 was busy in your city.
- Compare the number and quality of food-delivery requests, not only tips from the best order.
- Check whether pickup waits or kilometres rose compared with another recent Friday.
- For passenger driving, examine actual trips to gatherings, dining areas and transit stops without assuming a holiday surge.
Saturday, October 10: restaurant requests versus shopping orders
Households preparing for Thanksgiving may place grocery, convenience or food orders, but actual demand depends on open merchants and your neighbourhood. If Shop & Deliver is available and activated on your Uber account, a shopping order can involve collecting items, substitutions, checkout and delivery—not just driving to a restaurant.

Sunday, October 11: family gatherings can redistribute demand
Some households prepare meals while others choose delivery; restaurant supply and neighbourhood activity can shift unpredictably. The right question is not whether Thanksgiving Sunday is usually profitable; it is which offers you actually saw, how long they took and what they cost.
- Compare restaurant density and active merchants between neighbourhoods.
- Note traffic, parking, apartment drop-offs, courier waits and the return journey.
- If approved for passenger rides, compare trip earnings after pickup and repositioning time separately from delivery results.
Monday, October 12: holiday hours and unpredictable requests
Holiday Monday often changes which merchants operate. Fewer available restaurants could concentrate orders, but they could also leave fewer good requests and increase travel distance. The holiday label itself is not proof of a stronger shift.
- Check what stores and restaurants were actually open rather than assuming a normal Monday schedule.
- Compare time online, completed deliveries, restaurant waits, shopping delays and unpaid distance.
- Keep safe pickup and drop-off conditions ahead of any potential holiday incentive.
A useful Friday-to-Monday profit scorecard
Uber says Canadian delivery fares consider estimated time and distance, multiple pickups and drop-offs, and periods with limited courier availability and high demand. Those factors do not guarantee better profit. What matters is what you keep after the time and costs.

Quick formula: (gross shift earnings including tips − estimated operating costs) ÷ total online hours = estimated net income per online hour, before tax. Keep incentives separate, and consider vehicle wear and personal tax obligations when calculating costs.

Why passenger driving deserves its own holiday test
Eligible Uber passenger drivers serve different trips and locations than Uber Eats couriers. People travelling to gatherings, hotels, restaurants or events can generate demand, but legal pickup locations, traffic, licence and vehicle costs also differ.

What to test next, now that Thanksgiving is over
For the rest of October and the holiday season, use your normal lunch/dinner baseline and evaluate each event separately. Avoid copying an October 12 prediction into a new date, and re-check your city's current merchant hours, transport rules and Uber account offers.
