Uber Eats on Football Weekends: Saturdays, NFL Sundays & Game-Day Delivery

Football weekends can create two different kinds of demand: food delivered to viewers and passenger rides to or from games, bars, restaurants and events. Neither is guaranteed to pay well. Here's how to compare them and choose the right Uber signup.
Two different signup options
Game day: would you rather drive passengers or deliver food?
Passenger rides and Uber Eats deliveries have different requirements. Choose the one that fits your location, vehicle and schedule.
Drive passengers with Uber
Carry riders in an eligible four-door car. Passenger driving has its own age, licence, vehicle, screening and insurance requirements.

Deliver with Uber Eats
Deliver restaurant and other eligible orders. Depending on your city, you may qualify by car, scooter, bike or foot.

Football weekends offer two distinct Uber opportunities
Drive passengers
Eligible rideshare drivers can receive trip requests tied to game arrivals, post-game departures, sports bars, hotels and airport traffic. More crowds can also mean road closures, airport and venue pickup rules, long waits and traffic.
Best for: someone who meets local passenger-driver and vehicle standards, enjoys driving people and can manage pickup logistics.
Deliver with Uber Eats
Eligible couriers may receive food, convenience or grocery requests from homes, watch parties and restaurants. Busy game windows can also mean restaurant bottlenecks, delayed pickups and parking issues.
Best for: someone who prefers delivering orders and can find efficient restaurants and residential drop-off areas.
Uber says special events can influence passenger-ride demand and dynamic pricing, but increases are not automatic or constant. Check the offer and current driver-app information before making a trip decision.
College football Saturdays: don't confuse crowds with profits
College home games can change a whole neighborhood's movement patterns. Before kickoff, some people travel to campus or bars while others order food at home. After the game, passenger pickup requests may rise while traffic and road closures make completing trips slower.
- Passenger-driving test: Look at legal pickup areas outside pedestrian-heavy venue streets, and compare time spent getting to a pickup with the fare offered.
- Delivery test: Look for clusters of restaurants and homes beyond the heaviest stadium traffic, and compare actual pickup waits.
- Safety: Follow venue traffic controls, avoid illegal stops and do not treat a surge-colored map as a reason to drive unsafely.
NFL Sundays: compare home viewing with rides to events
Group viewing can mean restaurant, pizza, wings and convenience orders—while passengers may request rides to sports bars, gatherings, watch parties or the stadium. Dinner demand, local kickoff time and weather can make each market different.
- Before kickoff: Compare delivery requests around restaurants and passenger trips to gathering spots without assuming either will be stronger.
- During the game: Watch actual delivery offers and waits; avoid sitting online for hours simply because a stadium is busy.
- After the final whistle: Passenger requests may increase near venues and bars, but pickup queues, traffic, road closures and congestion can erase the advantage.
- After dark: Choose well-lit, permitted pickup and drop-off points, and put safety ahead of extra requests.
A simple game-day work plan you can actually test
| Window | Uber Driver: passenger rides | Uber Eats: deliveries |
|---|---|---|
| Before kickoff | Check hotel, neighborhood and pregame trips | Compare restaurants and residential orders |
| During play | Assess real requests, not crowd size | Watch food pickup times and distance |
| After final whistle | Evaluate safe, legal pickup zones and travel time | Avoid routes blocked by event traffic |
| Later evening | Measure demand, downtime and safe conditions | Compare actual dinner or late-night offers |
Measure what you keep, not a headline earnings number
Compare net earnings per total hour online for your chosen shift, using gross earnings and tips minus applicable operating costs. A bigger fare is not automatically a better result if it requires a long stadium pickup queue, traffic jam or costly parking.
- Time online, time actively on trips, pickup wait and dead time.
- Total miles driven, including repositioning; fuel, charging, tolls, parking and vehicle wear.
- Gross fares, delivery payouts, tips and any verified in-app promotion.
- Unfinished trips, canceled pickups, unpaid restaurant waits and unpredictable traffic.
- Whether the shift is sustainable and safe enough to repeat.

Which signup is right for you?
Passenger driving: Uber's U.S. baseline for new drivers is generally age 23+, with local rules, qualifying U.S. driving experience, an eligible four-door vehicle, screening and insurance requirements. Check Uber's current requirements for your specific city.
Uber Eats delivery: car-delivery entry is generally age 19+ in the U.S., with exceptions including California and New York State. Some markets permit bike or walking deliveries from 18. You must meet the local screening and mode-specific requirements.
Official checks: Uber passenger-driver requirements • Uber Eats delivery requirements. If you qualify for both, your city and your own after-cost results—not a generic promise—should decide which one you prioritize.
Before signing up
- Check the local passenger-driving or delivery eligibility requirements.
- Choose the correct referral route and read what Uber shows before completing signup.
- Do not assume a specific bonus, surge rate or volume of football orders.
- Verify personal and platform insurance needs before using your vehicle for paid work.
