Suno Song Length in V6: 8-Minute Generations, Extend & Better Structure
The old V5.5 Duration-slider workflow is now legacy. Suno's current V6 family can generate up to eight minutes in one generation. The useful question is no longer only “where is the slider?” It is: how much song do you actually need, and should you generate longer, structure better, or Extend a keeper?
Fast answer
V6, V6-Wild and V6-Mini can generate up to eight minutes in a single generation. If your song is already strong but stops too early, use Extend. If the song repeats, drags or wastes time, fix the structure instead of simply asking for more duration.
The four length problems are different
There is more song to say. Use clearer structure or Extend a keeper.
The idea finished before the audio did. Tighten sections, Crop excess, or regenerate with less material.
This is usually an ending/structure problem—not proof that you need more minutes.
The lyrics or arrangement may be too dense for the available space.
Plan the amount of song before you generate
A three-minute single, a six-minute worship build, a cinematic piece and a 30-second social hook do not need the same architecture. Decide the job first.
- Short promotional piece: one idea, fast entry, minimal sections.
- Standard song: enough contrast to support verse/chorus movement without filler.
- Long-form piece: add genuine development—new perspective, instrumental movement, bridge, breakdown or evolving final section.
Jack Righteous rule: length must be earned. Repetition is not development.
When to use Extend
Use Extend when the existing song is worth protecting and needs more material after a stable point. Do not use it to rescue a weak concept. If the vocal identity, groove, style lane or structure is already wrong, generating more of the same problem does not make the record better.
When to use Crop or Replace Section
If the song already contains the right ending but keeps going, Crop is usually the cleaner first move. If repetition happens inside the song rather than at the end, Replace Section or Song Editor is the better repair path.
If the song keeps repeating or will not end
Do not solve repetition by asking for even more length. Mark where the song should emotionally finish, then decide whether the fix is Crop, Fade Out, Replace Section or a better Extend point.

NEXT BEST STEP
If length problems keep changing from generation to generation, the real issue is probably structure or control. Continue through Find Your Sound instead of chasing duration settings.
Choose song length from the structure, not from the maximum
Use the Structure & Hook Vault to define section count, hook recurrence, contrast and ending before extending the runtime. A longer song only works when every section still has a job.
