For passenger driving in Quebec, this is more regulated than simply signing up for delivery. Uber currently requires a Quebec driver’s licence, proof that you are allowed to work in Canada, driver and vehicle documentation, safety screening, training and Quebec tax registration.

The SAAQ also requires drivers performing paid passenger transportation by automobile to meet the rules for an authorized or registered driver. In practical terms, you should expect to prove that you are legally qualified to drive passengers for pay—not just that you can drive a personal car.

Uber Eats delivery in Quebec: a different requirements path

If you only want to deliver food or eligible orders, do not assume you need every passenger-rideshare step above. Uber's Canadian delivery flow uses a different onboarding path. Car couriers generally need an accepted driver's licence for their location, valid insurance, proof of work eligibility and background screening. Bike or foot delivery can have different minimum-age and document requirements.

That distinction matters: Quebec passenger driving adds training, vehicle authorization and tax-registration obligations that do not automatically apply in the same way to delivery-only work.

2. Gather the documents Uber asks for

Uber’s current Quebec onboarding page lists a Quebec driver’s licence, proof of work eligibility, vehicle insurance and vehicle registration among the required documents. Uber also asks for profile information and a driver photo as part of onboarding.

• Driver’s licence: Uber currently says a Quebec class 5 licence or lower is required, and probationary or restricted licences are not accepted for this passenger-driving flow.
• Proof of work eligibility: examples listed by Uber include a Canadian passport, permanent resident card, work permit and other accepted documents.
• Vehicle insurance: your name must appear on the policy or you must be listed appropriately as an occasional or secondary driver.
• Vehicle registration: the vehicle must be registered in Quebec and meet Uber’s local vehicle requirements.

3. Complete the required safety screening

Uber says Quebec passenger drivers must pass two safety-screening components: a judicial record check for remunerated passenger transportation by automobile and a 3-year driver record search from the SAAQ.

The SAAQ separately confirms that criminal-record screening is part of qualifying for paid passenger transportation. Requirements and accepted documents can change, so use the current SAAQ and Uber instructions rather than relying on an old checklist.

4. Make sure your vehicle qualifies

Uber says the vehicle must be registered in Quebec, have four doors and not be rebuilt or salvaged. Mechanical inspection rules depend on vehicle age and mileage.

Uber currently says vehicles with less than 80,000 km and under 4 years old do not require the same mechanical inspection step, while older or higher-mileage vehicles face recurring inspection requirements. SAAQ rules also require a mechanical inspection certificate in certain cases when authorizing a vehicle for paid passenger transportation.

5. Complete the required driver training

Quebec requires mandatory training for drivers who transport passengers for pay. Uber currently directs Quebec applicants to approved online training, while the SAAQ requires completion of recognized training and the related exam for the authorized-driver permit process.

6. Register for the Quebec tax numbers Uber requires

Uber’s Quebec onboarding page currently says passenger drivers need GST, QST and SRS registration numbers. This is one of the major differences between passenger rideshare and delivery-only work.

Do not treat Uber payouts as tax-free income. Uber’s Canadian tax guidance says income tax is not withheld from driver earnings, and rideshare drivers have sales-tax responsibilities. In Quebec, Uber says it collects and remits GST/QST on your behalf for rideshare activity, but drivers still have filing obligations.
