Gluten-Free Jamaican Fried Dumplings - Jack Righteous

Faith, Food & Fellowship

Making room at the table sometimes means changing the recipe. This version keeps the spirit of Jamaican fried dumplings while giving a gluten-free option to people who need one.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour blend suitable for baking
  • 1 tbsp gluten-free baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter or suitable alternative
  • About 3/4 cup water, adjusted to the flour blend
  • Neutral cooking oil for frying

Method

  1. Mix flour blend, baking powder and salt.
  2. Work in butter, then add water gradually until the dough can be shaped without becoming wet.
  3. Rest 10 minutes.
  4. Shape small rounds and flatten slightly.
  5. Fry over medium heat until golden and cooked through.
  6. Drain and serve warm.

Important: if you are cooking for someone with celiac disease or a medically necessary gluten restriction, ask about cross-contact and ingredient requirements rather than assuming a gluten-free flour alone makes the kitchen safe.

For the standard version, see Jamaican Fried Dumplings: Heritage, Fellowship & Food to Share. For broader substitution principles, read Gluten-Free Baking & Christian Hospitality.
