Uber Eats Thanksgiving: Best Times to Deliver Without Guessing
Gary WhittakerJack Righteous • Canadian holiday timing guide • Updated October 21, 2026
What was the best time to deliver with Uber Eats over Canadian Thanksgiving? There is no trustworthy nationwide answer without actual shift data. Use the 2026 holiday as a four-day timing case study, plus Uber's normal meal-demand guidance, to work out which periods deserve your attention next.
Date check: Canadian Thanksgiving was Monday, October 12, 2026. This article now reviews October 9–12 as past dates; it does not claim actual nationwide Uber holiday earnings or suggest these shifts are still upcoming.

Start with Uber's ordinary lunch and dinner demand windows
Uber's delivery-help guidance describes 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as the lunch rush and 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as a common dinner-demand window. These are useful baseline periods for comparison—not holiday-specific guarantees.
A restaurant-dense area may have activity during those periods yet remain an inefficient shift because of slow preparation, difficult parking or long trips. Check the app and local restaurants rather than relying on a generic schedule. Official source: Uber Help: maximizing delivery requests.
Compare the four Thanksgiving 2026 days
| Date | What to test | Possible cost |
|---|---|---|
| Friday Oct 9 | Typical dinner-period comparison | Compare an ordinary Friday night with Oct 9, including delays and driving costs |
| Saturday Oct 10 | Grocery, convenience and meal periods | Look at shopping plus restaurant requests, substitutions, parking and online time |
| Sunday Oct 11 | Neighbourhood and meal patterns | Compare zones based on actual app offers instead of assuming all gatherings increase orders |
| Monday Oct 12 | Open merchants and local travel | Check whether reduced hours and wait times outweighed any offers you received |
These are analysis prompts, not a historical leaderboard. If you worked those dates, compare your Driver app trip history against ordinary days. If you did not, use the same framework for future special events.
A five-minute check before choosing any delivery shift
- Check the Uber Driver app for real local signals, notifications and available work types.
- Confirm merchants are open and that pickup/parking is legal and realistic.
- Estimate the total time, distance and unpaid repositioning for the requests you expect to accept.
- Set a safe test window rather than driving all day based on a holiday assumption.
- At the end, compare total online time, payouts and costs to your normal shifts.
What to record after the shift
Uber's published delivery-fare guidance describes estimated time, distance, multiple pickups/drop-offs and demand relative to courier supply as factors affecting fares. The only way to assess your own results is to separate gross payouts from operating costs.
Your short scorecard
- Gross delivery earnings and tips
- Number of requests completed and minutes waiting at merchants
- Total online hours and total kilometres
- Fuel or charging, parking, tolls and vehicle costs
- Estimated net hourly income before tax (not including unrepeatable signup promotions)
Calculate (gross shift earnings − estimated operating costs) ÷ total online hours. Use the 25-Delivery Profit Test if you need more data, and the Uber tax guide for recordkeeping.
How passenger driving fits into holiday demand
Approved rideshare drivers may see requests around gatherings, airports, events or hotels. That is different from meal-delivery demand, and the app signals and insurance or licensing rules are not necessarily the same. If you qualify for passenger trips, compare that opportunity separately rather than assuming a food-delivery hotspot predicts ride requests.
