What Is AI SEO? A Beginner's Guide That Actually Helps

Part 2: What Is AI SEO? (And Why It’s Not Google SEO)

In Part 1, I showed you how I started getting real traffic and real sales from AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity—without trying to “rank” anywhere.

But to take the next step, I had to actually ask:

What is AI SEO? And why is it working for me when I’m still figuring this out?

🤖 What Even Is AI SEO?

AI SEO is short for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). It’s the process of creating content that tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and You.com can find, understand, and summarize when answering questions.

Here’s the catch: it’s not the same as Google SEO.

Traditional SEO is all about:

  • Ranking in search results
  • Getting backlinks
  • Optimizing keywords
  • Competing with massive websites

AI SEO is different. These tools want:

  • Well-structured answers
  • Clear formatting
  • Pages with a strong point of view
  • Original phrasing or frameworks

That’s why I started showing up. I was:

  • Giving helpful answers
  • Naming what I built (e.g., Flagship Song Plan)
  • Publishing consistently with a clear purpose

🧠 How AI SEO Works (In Simple Terms)

Let’s say someone types this into Perplexity:

“How do I create a song with Suno AI and publish it?”

Perplexity scans the web looking for pages that:

  • Are easy to summarize
  • Have clear sections
  • Use specific language
  • Seem trustworthy (clean formatting, no spammy tricks)

If you’ve written a blog post or landing page that breaks this down in a way that sounds human, helpful, and organized, AI tools can pull from it—even if you’re a small site.

And that’s what happened to me.
