Udio Licensing Transition 2026: UMG, Warner, Downloads & Creator Workflow

The important Udio story is no longer “Udio vs the labels.” Udio now has licensing arrangements with both Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, while other litigation and AI-music rights questions continue elsewhere in the industry.

The timeline

• October 29, 2025: Udio announced its Universal partnership and moved into a transition where audio, video and stem downloads were disabled.
• November 19, 2025: Udio announced a Warner licensing arrangement that also resolved Warner's litigation with Udio.
• 2026: Udio continues operating core creation tools while building toward a reimagined licensed service.

What creators can still do

Udio says v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro remain available, along with core creation features including Extend, Remix and Styles. Public Udio links can still be shared. Additional current workflows include editing, Sessions and eligible audio-upload/Voice features depending on access.

What creators cannot currently assume

Do not assume a newly created song can be downloaded as audio, video or stems. Do not describe future licensed artist voices/styles as already broadly available. Do not describe the licensing agreements as an acquisition.

The JR workflow response

1. Use Udio for ideation and internal development when it is the best tool for the creative job.
2. Preserve prompts, lyrics, source permissions and Udio URLs.
3. Use local editing, Extend and Sessions to improve the song rather than regenerating blindly.
4. If a downloadable master is required now, choose a workflow whose current export rights and file access are verified before investing the project there.

That is a more durable response than predicting which company “wins.” Platform conditions can change faster than a training article.
