Suno “Prompt Contained Inappropriate Material”: Fix It Without Guessing
If Suno blocks a generation with a moderation message, do not start deleting random lines. Separate the Style prompt, title and lyrics, identify the smallest part that fails, and rewrite that part without trying to evade moderation.
This guide covers text-input moderation during generation. Audio-match and copyright-upload errors are different problems and are routed separately below.

Common reasons a request can be blocked
Suno’s public moderation guidance says generation can be prevented by wording that includes names of well-known artists or people, copyrighted or trademarked terms, derogatory or defamatory terms, excessive profanity, and other inappropriate topics or phrases. Suno does not promise to identify the exact word that caused the block.
That means a moderation failure is best treated as a diagnostic problem, not proof that your whole song is unacceptable.
Use one controlled test at a time
The five-step fix
- Save the original version. Keep the exact title, Style prompt, lyrics and error message before changing anything.
- Test a neutral Style prompt with the same lyrics. Remove artist, public-figure, song, album, brand and producer-name references from the Style side.
- If it still fails, test the lyrics in halves. Test the first half, then the second. Keep narrowing only the half that fails until you locate a short passage.
- Rewrite the function, not just the spelling. Preserve the emotion, rhythm or story purpose while changing the risky reference or framing.
- Stop guessing when the evidence stops changing. If neutral text still fails, or your own released material is being flagged, save your tests and contact Suno support rather than endlessly regenerating.

There is no dependable public “safe word list.” A phrase can behave differently depending on context, repetition and the rest of the request.

Its moderation system detected wording that may fall within a restricted category. Isolate Style, title and lyrics rather than assuming the whole song is the problem.
Can I use artist names?
Suno’s moderation guidance lists names of well-known artists or people among content that may prevent generation. Describe the musical characteristics instead.
Does Suno allow explicit lyrics?
Suno specifically identifies excessive profanity as a possible reason generation can fail. It does not publish a universal number of allowed uses.
What if nothing identifies the trigger?
