Uber Eats Halloween Safety: Parking, Crowds, Costumes & Night Deliveries

Jack Righteous • Halloween delivery safety • Updated October 21, 2026

Halloween is Saturday, October 31, 2026. If you plan to deliver with Uber Eats, make sure the shift works for your safety as well as your finances. Pedestrian-heavy streets, children in costumes, illegal parking shortcuts and late-night fatigue can turn a promising order into a bad decision.

Safety comes first: You're not obligated to extend a shift or take unnecessary risks because an app shows demand. If you're in immediate danger, contact emergency services; Uber's Safety Toolkit can help you reach support.

1. Treat every residential crossing as a potential hazard

Halloween can make pedestrians harder to see. Children may emerge between parked cars, or cross at unexpected places while focused on trick-or-treating. Watch sidewalks, driveways, corners and cyclists carefully, particularly after dusk.

ICBC and the RCMP both advise Halloween drivers to reduce speed, remove phone distractions, be patient with stopped vehicles and expect people to cross unexpectedly. This advice applies regardless of whether you drive passengers or deliver food.

2. Don't make illegal parking part of the business model

Orders are not profitable once parking tickets, dangerous stops and delays are accounted for. Avoid blocking cycle lanes, accessibility routes or pedestrian crossings. If the pickup or drop-off cannot be reached safely, follow the current in-app support procedure rather than improvising a risky stop.

  • Scout legal parking around familiar restaurants before starting a busy shift.
  • Leave extra time for pedestrian crowds and short walks from permitted stops.
  • Before opening a vehicle door, check for people on bicycles and scooters.
  • Avoid sudden U-turns or reversing where children may be walking.

Uber specifically recommends paying attention to pedestrians and cyclists and keeping pickups and drop-offs legal. Uber Canada driver safety tips.

3. Use a clear pickup and drop-off routine

When restaurants, apartment towers or party areas get crowded, small details matter. Read delivery notes while stopped; confirm the merchant and order; protect your personal belongings; and use the Driver app for customer messaging if the address or building access is unclear.

Phone and navigation

Set navigation before moving. Pull over legally before adjusting the app or reading delivery notes; don't hold the phone while driving.

Restaurant pickup

If a merchant is surrounded by crowds or has no legal access, take time to reassess the request. Parking penalties, danger or long waits can erase a good-looking payout.

Apartment and house access

Keep your vehicle locked, don't leave valuables visible, and use in-app communication if the entrance or instructions are unclear. Do not enter unsafe or restricted spaces.

4. Decide in advance when you'll stop working

Late-night Halloween road conditions can change quickly. Crowds, weather, low visibility and tiredness are real costs. Set a reasonable end time, take breaks and avoid driving if you can't remain fully alert. The correct choice may be not to work a late-night shift at all.

For passenger driving, late-night passengers and pickup situations introduce different considerations. Follow the rideshare-specific safety procedures and city rules; delivery safety guidance is not a substitute.

5. A six-point safety check before accepting requests

  • Children in costumes: Reduce speed on residential streets and scan driveways, alleys, crossings and spaces between parked cars. Children may be less visible or move unexpectedly.
  • Parking and bicycle lanes: Never block crossings, curb ramps, cycle lanes or traffic to save seconds. Use legal stopping points and walk to the door when safe.
  • Phone and navigation: Set navigation before moving. Pull over legally before adjusting the app or reading delivery notes; don't hold the phone while driving.
  • Restaurant pickup: If a merchant is surrounded by crowds or has no legal access, take time to reassess the request. Parking penalties, danger or long waits can erase a good-looking payout.
  • Apartment and house access: Keep your vehicle locked, don't leave valuables visible, and use in-app communication if the entrance or instructions are unclear. Do not enter unsafe or restricted spaces.
  • Night and fatigue: Use appropriate lights, reflective gear and weather protection. Stop when visibility, exhaustion, impaired road users or personal discomfort make the shift unsafe.

Keep Uber's driver safety features familiar, including the in-app Safety Toolkit. Report concerning situations through official channels and call emergency services where urgent help is needed.
