What this list measures—and what it does not

There is no trustworthy public table of actual Uber Eats take-home pay for all Canadian cities. This is an editorial shortlist based on metropolitan size, residential and restaurant density, local mobility, likely delivery practicality and Uber’s published city coverage. The number beside each city is its position in this shortlist, not a proven earnings or demand rank.

Statistics Canada’s July 1, 2025 estimates, published January 14, 2026, recorded 31,169,100 residents across Canada’s 41 census metropolitan areas. That is useful context for potential customer markets—not an Uber Eats earnings measure. Uber separately publishes the cities where delivery opportunities are available.

10 Canadian cities to test for Uber Eats—and potentially Uber Driver

1. Toronto, Ontario

Canada’s largest metro area, with dense restaurant and residential zones. Downtown distances may be shorter, but parking, apartment access and traffic can absorb time.

A useful first test: Compare a downtown bicycle-friendly zone with a car-friendly outer neighbourhood; check parking and per-order wait times.

2. Montréal, Québec

Dense neighbourhoods and a substantial restaurant scene make it a useful test for cycling or driving; roadwork and winter conditions change the economics.

A useful first test: Compare two neighbourhoods at lunch and dinner; record parking, hills, elevator and winter-delay costs.

3. Vancouver, British Columbia

Walkable and bikeable neighbourhoods plus a substantial delivery market; central parking and vehicle costs may be difficult.

A useful first test: Compare restaurant-dense delivery zones with your transportation mode; include parking and rain-related safety.

4. Calgary, Alberta

A large, growing metro with diverse residential and restaurant areas; long distances can erase an attractive offer.

A useful first test: Run lunch and dinner tests in different zones and include empty kilometres.

Check Alberta passenger-driver and delivery requirements →

5. Edmonton, Alberta

Another large metro where the best operating zone and vehicle may matter more than the city’s size.

A useful first test: Compare neighbourhoods by delivered orders per online hour rather than using gross screenshots.

Check Alberta passenger-driver and delivery requirements →

6. Ottawa, Ontario

Government, university and residential demand can create different meal-time patterns. The metro region crosses the Ontario–Québec border.

A useful first test: Pick an eligible Ontario operating area and test restaurant clusters while checking any regional account restrictions.

7. Winnipeg, Manitoba

Central restaurant clusters offer a logical starting point; cold-season conditions may introduce greater time, safety and operating costs.

A useful first test: Test a normal lunch and dinner before judging winter or event-day conditions.

8. Québec City, Québec

Tourism, institutional areas and older street layouts may make some central zones useful while hills and winter affect transport choices.

A useful first test: Compare a central restaurant cluster with a second zone and examine hill, weather and parking effects.

Check Québec passenger-driver and delivery requirements →

9. Hamilton, Ontario

Urban neighbourhoods, local institutions and proximity to the GTA create a different operating pattern than central Toronto.

A useful first test: Compare local neighbourhood routes instead of assuming Toronto results carry over.

Check Ontario passenger-driver and delivery requirements →

10. Halifax, Nova Scotia

A more compact market with university, tourism and peninsula restaurant clusters. Smaller market size makes testing different shifts important.

A useful first test: Compare peninsula versus suburban delivery time, parking and trip mileage.

Why testing a neighbourhood matters more than picking a city

Different areas of the same city can give very different results. A short-looking delivery may involve parking tickets, stairs or long restaurant waits. A longer trip may bring you back into a busy area—or leave you with empty kilometres. For Uber passenger driving, vehicle, screening, insurance and municipal permit rules may limit where you are allowed to accept rides.

Before you judge whether a city is worth working in, test a small set of shifts in your actual neighbourhood. Try lunch, dinner and a weekend period. Record trips, tips, total time online, distance, waiting time and direct operating costs. A 25-delivery sample can reveal patterns without proving future results.

Can you also drive passengers in these cities?

Yes, passenger driving is a separate Uber opportunity in eligible locations, but it is not simply an upgraded Uber Eats account. A qualifying four-door vehicle, accepted driver's licence, screening, insurance, vehicle inspection and local authorizations may be required. Some approved people can eventually add both work types, subject to Uber’s local rules.

The provincial guides linked above explain the requirements. If passenger driving suits your vehicle and you are comfortable transporting riders, review that referral alongside delivery. Do not choose a product because someone claims one always pays more.

Keep taxes and vehicle costs in the calculation

Gross app payouts are not your profit. Passenger rides and delivery also have different Canadian GST/HST or Québec QST considerations. Start with Uber Driver Taxes: Canada & U.S. and use your own numbers rather than national earnings promises.
