Can You Enter the AI Music Awards With a Suno Song? 2026 Eligibility Checklist

Jack Righteous · AI Music Awards Intelligence Series · Verified October 23, 2026

Yes, a song made with Suno may qualify for an AI music award. But the correct answer is not simply “Suno is allowed.” Eligibility depends on the specific competition, when and how your song was made, what rights you can grant, and how honestly you explain the creative process.

Start here: NEXT SOUND accepts eligible music made with AI and is open until December 1, 2026 (23:59 UTC). AIMEE accepts eligible entries until December 31, 2026 (11:59 pm PT). Read each organizer's current rules before uploading anything.

Which AI music awards can a Suno creator enter?

NEXT SOUND — practical music-entry route

Its rules do not exclude Suno by brand. They require a meaningful role for at least one AI tool in making or producing the recording, together with clear disclosure. The organizer accepts previously released music if rights permit; its 2026 formats are a standalone MP3 single or an 8–16-track LP. Your first eligible single entry is free. An LP pass is $10 USD and the Unlimited pass is $20 USD. The four competition genres are Pop, Electronic, Cinematic and Experimental.

The judging is music-first: the professional jury accounts for 80% of the final score, while validated audience ratings account for 20%. Read NEXT SOUND's complete rules.

AIMEE — more category choices, more role-specific rules

The Academy of AI Music has categories for songwriting, performance, production, AI craft and innovation, education, ethics and autonomous/generative work. Its rules value meaningful human involvement in many categories, while assigning autonomous/generative honors to the generating company. A song that uses Suno with original human-written lyrics, creative direction or additional production may fit different categories from a largely hands-off generation.

The eligibility year is January 1–December 31, 2026. Check the specific award field and its evidence requirements rather than filing under a popular-sounding category. Read AIMEE's official rules and the category definitions.

SIQA AIMAs — follow the nominees, not a closed entry form

SIQA's 2026 nomination deadline was September 25. Its classification system distinguishes AI-assisted music, human + AI hybrid self-voice cloning, and fully AI-generated music. That is useful for understanding how artists describe their work, but it does not reopen submissions for this year's ceremony. Review the registry framework.

The six checks every Suno creator should do

1. Confirm your Suno commercial-use rights

Suno's September 3, 2026 guidance says songs downloaded while on a paid subscription are granted commercial-use rights, subject to its terms. Suno also says songs made under the free Basic tier are generally non-commercial, and upgrading later does not automatically grant retroactive commercial rights to those recordings. For your specific song, check the original creation plan, download date, permitted-download conditions and applicable terms rather than relying on subscription status alone.

Important: permission to use or monetize a recording is not the same as a guarantee that every musical element receives copyright protection. Suno ownership guidance · Suno commercial rights guidance

2. List all contributors and third-party material

Record whether you wrote the lyrics, uploaded audio, used third-party samples, used an imitation voice, worked with a collaborator, or arranged the final audio outside Suno. A Suno download is not proof that you have permission for somebody else's lyrics, composition, voice or recording.

3. Match the competition's AI definition

“AI-assisted,” “fully AI-generated,” and “human + AI hybrid” are not universal legal categories. SIQA, NEXT SOUND and AIMEE define relevant creative roles differently. Describe what you actually did. Do not relabel an AI-generated recording as human-performed to chase a category.

4. Export the correct audio package

For NEXT SOUND's 2026 edition, the required format is MP3. Its standalone single is one track; an LP must contain 8–16 distinct tracks. Keep your original project/export, final title, artist credit, release date, artwork and any collaboration permissions together. Follow the upload-page file limits.

5. Understand the entry licence

NEXT SOUND's terms request a non-exclusive, royalty-free worldwide five-year licence for hosting, streaming and promoting the awards entry. That does not transfer ownership, but you must have the authority to grant the licence. If your track uses content subject to another party's restrictions, investigate before submitting.

6. Choose a song ready to compete

Listen for a compelling opening, believable vocals, intelligible lyrics, arrangement momentum, clean transitions and an ending that serves the song. Ask for useful listener feedback before submitting. An award entry should present your best current work—not an experiment you have not listened to carefully.

Practical submission worksheet

Copy these fields into your notes before entering:

  • Song: title, artist name, release date and version
  • Suno history: creation date, plan type, qualifying download date, version and your original prompts
  • Human contributions: lyrics, melody, recording, editing, production and creative direction
  • AI contributions: generation, vocal work, instruments, mixing or mastering
  • Rights: permission for each contributor, voice, sample, cover and artwork
  • Entry: target category, format, deadline, fee and exact accepted rule version
  • After submission: confirmation email, entry URL, public profile and results date

Three examples

Example A: fully generated Suno track on a paid plan

You may have commercial-use permissions under Suno's terms, and you may qualify for AI-native awards. But there is no automatic guarantee of copyright, and some categories emphasize more human involvement. Select the right category and describe your process accurately.

Example B: your original lyrics + Suno instrumental and vocals + your own editing

This is a richer human-direction story. Document the lyrics and editing steps and choose categories that recognize the creative roles you actually performed. Avoid overclaiming human vocal or instrumental performance that did not occur.

Example C: free-tier track with borrowed lyrics or imitation voice

Stop before submitting. You may lack permission both from the generation platform and from other rights holders. Correct the underlying rights and consent issues, and verify eligibility anew. Simply changing the title or paying an entry fee will not repair them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter a Suno track I already released?

NEXT SOUND says previously released music may qualify if the creator meets its rights and other rules. AIMEE has a 2026 eligibility window. Check each organizer's criteria.

Does a paid Suno subscription make my track copyright protected?

No. Suno's commercial-use permission and legal copyrightability are distinct questions. The law may differ by jurisdiction and by the amount and character of human authorship.

Should I submit an entire album?

Only if its format fits the event, all tracks clear the rights checklist, and the album has a coherent creative direction. One polished single is often a more manageable first entry.

Should I submit every version of a song?

No. Some organizers prohibit duplicates or trivial alternate versions. Pick the version with the clearest identity and strongest performance.
