You will finish with a concise core prompt, an expanded Prompt Control Brief and a control map showing what each important instruction is intended to influence. Keep that record outside any one platform.

Begin with hierarchy, not a pile of descriptors

A strong prompt is not the longest prompt. It is a clear order of creative priorities.

Your Song Direction Brief already contains four high-value decisions:

Emotional purpose → musical home → foreground/vocal identity → movement.

Keep those visible. Add technical detail only when it supports one of them.

Write the emotional and musical centre

Combine the emotional purpose and primary musical home in one sentence.

Define the foreground performance

If the song has a lead voice, describe tone, range, character and delivery. If it is instrumental, define which instrument or texture owns the foreground. Add support only when it performs a clear function.

Use the fewest words that preserve the hierarchy.

Create the control map

A professional prompt is easier to revise when you know what each instruction is trying to control.

Do not confuse the brief with the platform

Your creative brief should survive a platform switch. Translate the brief into those controls; do not rebuild your creative thinking around the interface.

Common failures and corrections

Failure: Genre stacking.
Correction: Choose one primary musical system and make every secondary influence perform a specific job.
Failure: Conflicting foreground instructions.
Correction: Prioritize one lead identity, then define where and why support appears.
Failure: A static instrument list.
Correction: Describe relationships and how the arrangement changes from opening to peak.
Failure: Too many adjectives.
Correction: Remove any word that does not alter emotion, performance, rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, structure or production.
Failure: Rewriting everything after one weak generation.
Correction: Use the control map to change one instruction tied to the audible miss.

Improve it once before generating

Read both versions beside your Song Direction Brief. Circle the most important instruction. Then remove or rewrite one phrase that competes with it.

Do not generate yet if the brief contains two different emotional outcomes, two equal primary genres, incompatible lead identities, no clear movement or no way to recognize success.

Proof of completion

You are finished when you have:

One concise core prompt. One expanded Prompt Control Brief. Three protected variables. A control map for at least three instructions. One named nearest wrong answer. No unresolved contradiction. One prompt ready for controlled testing.
