Access and download availability depend on the qualifying purchase or paid-member entitlement attached to your account.

Phase 1 — Freeze the business logic before touching Flow

Define the state model

Write the exact states your customer can occupy and the event that changes each one.

  • Visitor
  • Free Access — No Purchase
  • Paid Customer — New
  • Paid Customer — Established
  • Not Eligible for Marketing
  • Refunded / Cancelled, where relevant

Define the transition rules

The key transition is purchase: it must stop the prospect path and begin the customer path.

Phase 2 — Build the four-message prospect journey

  1. Deliver: access + first action.
  2. First Win: move from possession to use.
  3. Go Deeper: show a second useful layer and the natural free→paid gap.
  4. Decide: make the paid choice clear without fake urgency.

Before every delayed sales-oriented message, re-check whether the customer has purchased the qualifying product.

Phase 3 — Build the post-purchase journey

Start with Welcome/Access → First Paid Win → Second Useful Action → Remove Friction. Add Better Results, Reinforce Value and Next Step only if they materially improve adoption.

Phase 4 — Sidekick build prompt

Review my current Shopify setup before changing anything. I want to implement this customer journey: Visitor → free signup → four-message free-user onboarding → purchase check → qualifying paid purchase → post-purchase onboarding. First identify which Forms, tags, customer segments, Shopify Messaging automations and Flow workflows already exist and can be reused. Then propose the cleanest build using my actual store data. Requirements: - Only eligible free users enter the prospect journey. - Existing purchasers do not enter the prospect sales path for the product they already own. - Before each delayed sales-oriented message, re-check purchase state. - A qualifying purchase exits the prospect path immediately. - The purchase starts the appropriate post-purchase onboarding journey. - Prevent unexpected duplicate entry and overlapping journeys. - Explain every trigger, wait, condition, branch, segment and exclusion before I approve it. - Do not activate anything until testing is complete. Do not invent product IDs, tags, forms, segments or workflows. Use what exists in my store and tell me what must still be created.

Phase 5 — ChatGPT production prompt

I am building a reusable Shopify onboarding funnel. Use only the business information I provide. Design: 1. the free-to-paid customer journey, 2. the four-message free-user sequence, 3. the post-purchase onboarding sequence using only 4–7 messages that genuinely deserve to exist, 4. the customer-state map, 5. the purchase suppression logic, 6. the QA test plan, 7. the measurement plan. For every email provide objective, recommended timing, subject, preview text, body structure, primary CTA, destination and the business condition under which the email should not be sent. Do not invent urgency, scarcity, testimonials, results, legal conclusions or product capabilities.

Phase 6 — Break the system before customers can

Required test cases

  • A — free signup never buys
  • B — signup buys immediately
  • C — signup buys midway through the sequence
  • D — existing purchaser submits the free form
  • E — no marketing consent / unsubscribed
  • F — duplicate signup
  • G — multiple orders
  • H — refund or cancellation
  • I — mobile rendering and CTA usability
  • J — broken or incorrect destination

Sidekick QA prompt

Audit my free-user and post-purchase workflows as if you are trying to break them. Check specifically for: - purchasers continuing to receive prospect sales emails - existing customers entering the wrong free-user path - duplicate messages - users entering conflicting journeys - missing marketing-consent or eligibility checks - incorrect product conditions - timing conflicts - unreachable branches - unexpected re-entry - wrong post-purchase trigger - broken destinations or missing manual configuration Explain every problem you find and recommend the safest correction. Do not apply changes until I review them.

Phase 7 — Activation gate

Do not activate the system until you can prove all of the following:

  • The right signup event creates the intended free-user state.
  • The correct people are in each segment.
  • The four free-user messages are connected to the right eligibility checks.
  • A purchase stops later prospect sales messaging.
  • The correct product starts paid onboarding.
  • Repeat purchase behavior is understood.
  • Consent and unsubscribe behavior are correct for the message type.
  • Every CTA works on desktop and mobile.
  • The downloadable premium Builder is not exposed through a public file link.

Phase 8 — Measure the journey

Track the lifecycle, not only email opens:

Landing page → Signup → Free activation → Paid conversion → Paid activation → Continued customer value

Your primary business metric is typically free-to-paid conversion. Also monitor time to purchase, support friction and whether customers reach the first useful result after purchase.

Build another funnel

This is the reason the Builder exists. Once one funnel is working, duplicate the framework—not the assumptions. Every new free offer and paid product should have its own value gap, customer states, timing, exclusions and post-purchase needs.

Your Build completion standard

  1. A documented free and paid offer.
  2. A customer-state map.
  3. A four-message free-user journey.
  4. Purchase suppression and exit logic.
  5. A 4–7 message post-purchase journey.
  6. Verified segments.
  7. A reviewed Flow plan.
  8. A completed QA matrix.
  9. Passed test journeys.
  10. A measurement plan.
  11. The reusable Builder saved for the next funnel.
