British Columbia has a more formal rideshare onboarding path than simple food delivery. Passenger drivers need provincial screening and vehicle documentation, while Uber Eats delivery has a different eligibility path.

Passenger driving and Uber Eats are not the same signup

This is the first thing to get right. Passenger rideshare is more heavily regulated and usually adds licence-class, screening, inspection, insurance or local bylaw requirements. Delivery-only work can have a different age, vehicle and screening path.

• Passenger driving: Uber requires the B.C. documents and safety screening needed for a Record Check Certificate (RCC), including an ICBC commercial driving record and police information check with vulnerable-sector screening.
• Vehicle: Vancouver passenger vehicles currently must be 4-door vehicles with at least 5 seats, meet age limits, pass a commercial vehicle inspection and display Uber decals while online.
• September 2026 screening update: Uber says the ICBC N-Print and police screening used for RCC issuance must fall within the required recent-document window.
• Uber Eats: delivery can have lower entry requirements than passenger rides and may be available by car, bike or scooter depending on market.

Uber's Canadian delivery guidance currently says car couriers generally need an accepted driver's licence for their location, valid insurance, proof of work eligibility and background screening. Bike or foot delivery can have different minimum ages and does not use the same vehicle-document path. Always choose the delivery option during signup and confirm the exact requirements Uber shows for your city.
