Suno September 3 2026 Terms update explaining Premier 60-download limit and commercial-use changes for AI music creators

Suno Download Limits 2026: Pro 20, Premier 60, Studio & Commercial Rights

Suno Download Guide · Verified September 9, 2026

Suno now limits standard song downloads to 20 per month on Pro and 60 per month on Premier. Studio workflows are not subject to those standard limits. Suno’s September 9 help updates also clarify re-downloads, stems, file formats, older songs and billing resets — while the September 3 Terms make a permitted Suno download part of the commercial-use workflow.

Direct answer: Pro gets 20 standard song downloads per month and Premier gets 60. The allowance resets on your billing date. Re-downloading the same song, exporting it in another supported format, or downloading its stems does not use another song allocation. Older songs count against the current allowance unless you had already downloaded that song. Studio workflows are not affected by the standard Pro/Premier limits.

Plan / workflow Current rule What creators should know
Pro 20 song downloads per month Resets on your billing date; unused monthly downloads do not roll over.
Premier 60 song downloads per month Same monthly reset; qualifying commercial use still depends on a permitted download.
Studio Studio workflows are not affected by the standard limits above This is a workflow exception, not a blanket promise that every Premier download everywhere is “unlimited.”

What counts as one Suno download?

Suno’s September 9 documentation now answers this at the song level. The first successful download of a song uses the allocation. Downloading that same song again does not use another download, and downloading the same song in multiple supported formats still counts as one song.

  • Re-download the same song: no additional download.
  • Download MP3 and then WAV: still one song download.
  • Download stems: included with that song rather than charged as extra song downloads.
  • Failed or interrupted download: does not count against the limit.

Practical implication: do not ration WAV, MP3 and stems as though each export spends another monthly slot. The scarce unit is the song you choose to download, not every supported file you later export from that song.

When do downloads reset, and do unused downloads roll over?

For Pro and Premier, the included allowance resets each month on your billing date. Unused monthly downloads do not roll over. Suno separately says individual download purchases and purchased download packs do roll over. On annual plans, the included monthly download allowance still tops up monthly based on the original purchase date.

That makes the billing date more important than the calendar month. If you are planning a release-heavy period, check your account’s renewal date rather than assuming your limit resets on the first of the month.

Do download limits apply to old Suno songs?

Yes. Suno’s September 9 guidance says the limits apply to your full library, including songs generated before the new limits took effect. If you download an older song now, it counts against your current allowance unless you had already downloaded that specific song before.

Catalog implication: an old song sitting safely in your Suno library is not the same thing as an old song you already secured through a permitted download. For a large back catalog, prioritize the songs that actually matter instead of trying to export everything indiscriminately.

What file types can you download?

MP3

Available for song downloads on all plans and on web and mobile.

WAV

Available to Pro and Premier subscribers on suno.com. Mobile song downloads default to MP3.

Video & stems

Songs can be downloaded as video files. Individual stems can be downloaded when stems exist for the song, without creating additional song-download charges.

Studio MIDI

MIDI is available for songs created in Suno Studio and is available to Premier subscribers.

Studio is a workflow exception — not “Premier is unlimited”

Suno’s wording matters. The company says workflows in Suno Studio are not affected by the standard download limits. That is more precise than saying “Premier has unlimited downloads.” A Premier user working through the standard song-download system still has the documented 60-song monthly allowance; Studio is the separately documented workflow exception.

This distinction is why this guide no longer describes Studio as simply “unlimited” in the title.

Why a permitted download matters for commercial use

Suno’s current Terms say a user may commercially exploit qualifying Output only if the Output satisfies Suno’s Conditions of Access and Use and the user has obtained a permitted download in accordance with the allocation for the applicable service tier. The Terms also state that Output not downloaded through an approved channel may not be commercially exploited.

So it is no longer complete to describe Suno commercial rights as only, “I generated the song while I was paying.” Paid-plan status can matter, but under the current Terms the permitted download is also part of the contractual commercial-use path.

Commercial permission is not copyright. Suno’s Terms govern your contract with Suno. Copyright law separately decides whether particular human-authored expression is protected in a jurisdiction.

Generation, download, commercial permission and copyright are four different questions

1. Generation

Creating an Output and keeping it in your Suno library.

2. Permitted download

Obtaining that Output through a Suno-provided download channel under the applicable rules.

3. Commercial permission

What Suno’s contract permits you to do with a qualifying Output for revenue-generating use.

4. Copyright

What applicable law independently protects based on authorship and other legal requirements.

A file on your hard drive does not by itself prove copyright. A copyrightable human contribution also does not erase the separate obligation to comply with the platform contract.

Provenance is now part of the recordkeeping conversation

Suno’s Terms also address fingerprints, watermarks and metadata. They prohibit removing, altering, obscuring or circumventing provenance-related markers for the purpose of concealing or misrepresenting an Output’s provenance, service tier or status. The Terms also prohibit obtaining a copy through methods outside Suno’s provided download channels, including recording or stream ripping.

For a serious release, treat the first permitted download as a recordkeeping event. Preserve enough context to show what you created, when you secured it, and what work you performed afterward.

What to save in your creator record

  • The Suno song/project reference or URL where practical.
  • Creation date and the model/version used.
  • The date you first obtained the permitted download.
  • Your plan or account context at the time of the release workflow.
  • The downloaded master plus relevant stems or Studio exports.
  • Your own lyrics, prompts, source audio, performances, arrangement notes and revisions.
  • Post-Suno editing, production, mastering and release records.

This is evidence, not a magic certificate. A creator record can help establish provenance and document your human work. It does not automatically make an otherwise unprotectable element copyrightable, and it does not replace the current Terms.

What happens if you cancel or downgrade later?

Suno’s current Terms say that the assignment made for qualifying paid-plan Output and the commercial-use rights associated with a Download you obtained are perpetual and are not affected by later exhaustion of your download allotment, changes to allotments or pricing, or the expiry, cancellation, downgrade or suspension of your subscription.

That does not mean every AI-generated element is necessarily copyrightable, and it does not override the separate rules of distributors, streaming services, sync libraries or other third-party platforms.

Remixes remain a separate warning

Under the current Terms, Suno’s service-generated Remixes are treated more restrictively. Unless Suno provides otherwise through a separate offering, a joint owner of a Remix agrees to use that Remix only for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes, regardless of subscription tier or whether the Remix was a permitted Download.

Do not assume every paid-plan export has identical commercial status.

September 3 changed the rules — September 9 clarified how they work

September 3, 2026 remains an important date because the new download limits and Terms took effect. But it should now be treated as historical context, not as an upcoming deadline. The more useful question is how the live system works today: what counts, what resets, what old songs cost to download, which workflows are exempt and what a permitted download means for a commercial release.

Where v6 and retired models fit into this

Suno’s September 9 v6 documentation says the current model family is v6, v6-wild and v6-mini, and that models prior to v6 have been retired. Songs made with older models remain in the library unchanged and can still be listened to, shared, remastered and covered, but new iterations use the current v6 family.

That makes download limits and catalog preservation part of the same workflow. Model retirement does not mean your old songs vanished, but it is another reason not to treat a cloud library as your only professional archive. Secure the important outputs, preserve the human work around them, and maintain your own release files.

A better Suno release workflow in 2026

  1. Separate experiments from serious candidates. Do not spend your attention treating every generation like a release asset.
  2. Obtain the permitted Suno download. Use Suno’s own download channel for a song you intend to exploit commercially.
  3. Collect the useful formats. Save the master and relevant stems; supported re-downloads and formats do not consume another song allocation.
  4. Preserve your creator record. Save lyrics, prompts, source audio, dates, model notes, revisions and human production work.
  5. Archive outside Suno. Keep organized local/cloud copies you control.
  6. Document post-generation work. Maintain DAW sessions, edits, performances, arrangement decisions and mastering records where relevant.
  7. Check the destination platform. Distributors and other services can impose separate AI, metadata and monetization rules.

What still requires watching

The mechanics are much clearer after the September 9 documentation update, but Suno can still change plan allowances, purchased-download pricing, Studio behavior, available file types, model access and other product rules. Treat Suno’s live Terms and Help Center as the source of truth for platform rules, and keep your own project records outside the platform.

A download is not the release decision

Secure the permitted file, then decide whether the track is actually ready.

Use AI Rights for Creators when you need to document ownership, permissions and human contribution. Use the AI Music Release Router when the file is secured and you need to decide whether to hold, finish or distribute it.

Build the workflow, not just the download folder

The download limit is only one layer of running an AI-assisted music catalog. The durable workflow is: choose the songs that matter, secure the permitted download, preserve provenance and human contribution, then move into an organized release process you control.
