Configure the Book Listing, Pricing and Reader Offer

Turn the approved publication package and distribution decisions into accurate listings that tell readers what the book is, what each edition costs and what happens after purchase or access.

The listing is part of the publication

A technically correct book can still fail readers when its title, description, categories, price, sample, edition labels or purchase route are misleading. Milestone 16 aligns the public promise with the actual edition.

Build the listing from authoritative records

Identity

Exact title, subtitle, series, author, edition, publisher and cover.

Reader relevance

Who the book serves, what it contains, the credible experience or outcome and important limits.

Commercial configuration

Edition price, currency, royalty or print-cost implications, territories and promotional conditions.

Reader delivery

Format, access route, sample, companion resources, account requirements and support path.

Price each edition deliberately

Price is not chosen in isolation. Compare the known printing or delivery cost, platform constraints, royalty structure, reader expectations, comparable editions and the role of the publication in the author catalogue.

Edition Destination/currency Known cost or platform floor Proposed price Expected royalty or margin Evidence/date
Ebook Record actual platform currency Verified figure Author decision Platform calculation Record
Print Record actual platform currency Verified printing cost Author decision Platform calculation Record

Use CAD for the author’s own budget and business records. Preserve the currency actually used by each publishing platform or marketplace rather than inventing a conversion.

Define the reader offer

The offer is the full reader-facing arrangement, not merely the book price. It may include a sample chapter, companion workbook, updates page, reader guide, bonus file or direct support route, but every included item must be real, accessible and accurately described.

Use one primary purchase or access action

The primary publication page may link to one main retailer, several edition-specific destinations or direct access. Whatever structure is chosen, the visitor must be able to distinguish formats, prices, territories and next steps without guessing.

Responsible AI use

AI may draft descriptions from approved records, compare supplied listing versions or identify unsupported claims. It must not invent reviews, bestseller status, scarcity, reader outcomes, prices, royalties or platform availability.

Bounded prompt: Compare the supplied manuscript summary, intended reader, metadata master and listing draft. Flag unsupported claims, missing edition details, conflicting prices, vague benefits and CTA confusion. Do not invent testimonials, rankings, outcomes or commercial figures.

Milestone 16 completion standard

  • Every intended edition has an accurate listing plan.
  • Titles, descriptions, categories and edition details match the publication.
  • Known platform costs, floors and currencies are recorded.
  • Prices and promotional conditions are documented.
  • The reader offer contains only real deliverables.
  • Samples and companion resources are verified.
  • Purchase or access routes are clear.
  • A final Book Listing, Pricing and Reader Offer Record exists.

Frequently asked questions

Should every edition have the same price?

No. Costs, format value, platform rules and reader expectations can differ.

Should I price from comparable books?

Use comparable evidence as one input, not as an automatic answer.

Can I offer the ebook free?

Yes when that supports the publishing plan and the destination permits it, but document the purpose and conditions.

Can I promise reader results?

Only make claims the publication and evidence can responsibly support.

Can AI write the book description?

It may draft from approved material, but the author must verify every statement.

What is the main deliverable?

A Book Listing, Pricing and Reader Offer Record.
