The one-sentence project test

Example: This is a cinematic reggae single for listeners facing a difficult decision. It should move from pressure to conviction and lead the listener to replay or share the chorus.

Project identity

Working titleUse a temporary title that identifies the idea.
Project typeSingle, instrumental, cue, podcast bed, musical scene, social hook or other asset.
Artist or project identityWho presents the work publicly?
Intended usePrivate test, public content, distribution, licensing, client delivery or direct sale.

Audience and emotional direction

Primary listenerDescribe the listener’s situation, not only demographics.
Opening emotionWhat should the first 15 seconds establish?
Emotional journeyWhere should tension rise, turn and resolve?
Desired responseReplay, share, reflect, dance, buy, contact, license or continue the story?

Sound direction

Primary laneOne dominant genre or musical language.
Supporting influenceOne secondary influence that adds contrast.
Rhythm and energyTempo, groove, intensity and movement.
InstrumentationCore instruments, featured hooks and exclusions.
Vocal identityRange, texture, accent, character and backing roles.

Human-origin material and rights

  • List original lyrics, melody sketches, recordings, chords, story notes and references.
  • Identify uploaded audio, samples, loops, third-party or client-provided assets.
  • Name collaborators and the decisions or performances they will contribute.
  • Identify voice-consent, cover-song, artwork or licensing questions before generation.
  • Record the AI platform, plan and model used for serious candidates.
