Turn a Conversation Into an Article Without Inventing What Wasn’t Said

AI Writing Assistance · Find Your Voice · Public Lesson 20

This lesson is part of the public AI Writing Assistance series: practical training you can use now, with a deeper Find Your Voice practice available where your access includes it.

A conversation can contain the bones of a strong article, but AI often fills gaps too confidently when asked to make it read smoothly.

The Jack Righteous approach

Separate what was actually said from what would require interpretation, new input or outside research.

Use this workflow

  1. Extract direct claims, examples and decisions from the conversation.
  2. Label unclear or incomplete points instead of filling them.
  3. Build an outline from confirmed material.
  4. Mark interpretations separately from source material.
  5. Only add outside facts after a separate verification step.

Why this matters

AI can move quickly enough that a weak assumption becomes polished before you notice it. A stronger workflow makes the important choices visible earlier: what the source material actually says, what belongs to your voice, what the reader needs, and what still requires human judgment.

A prompt you can actually use

Copy and adapt:

Turn this conversation into an article outline using only information actually present. Mark gaps as [NEEDS INPUT] and interpretations as [INFERENCE]. Do not invent examples, facts, motivations or transitions just to make the story smoother.

What a useful AI response should do

A useful response should help you inspect the material, not hide the reasoning under better prose. You should be able to see which patterns came from your source material, which conclusions are tentative, and which choices still belong to you.

Your five-minute exercise

A direct claim from the conversation is: ______________________________

A useful example is: ______________________________

A gap that needs input is: ______________________________

An interpretation I need to confirm is: ______________________________

What the human still decides

AI can help with pattern recognition, organization, questions, alternatives and editing. You still decide what is true, what sounds like you, what belongs in the project, what is safe to publish and what deserves to become a reusable rule.
