Milestone 7: Choose the Primary Format and Delivery Model
Jack Righteous20 Milestones: From Project to Platform — Milestone 7 of 20
Free Academy LessonChoose the Primary Format and Delivery Model
Turn the validated project direction into a clear audience experience.
Milestone 7 decides what the audience will primarily receive and how they will access, use or experience it. The best format is not automatically the most impressive, popular or familiar. It is the format that best carries the validated outcome and central message within realistic constraints.

Choose the Primary Format and Delivery Model
Continue only through approved milestones
Learning objectives
Separate format from delivery
Know the difference between what people receive and how they access it.
Compare real options
Evaluate at least three credible formats against evidence and constraints.
Record one decision
Choose a primary format, delivery model, support assets and exclusions.
Format and delivery are different decisions
Primary format
The main container for the project’s value: book, podcast, album, workshop, course, template, campaign, community or another defined experience.
Delivery model
How the audience receives and uses it: download, streaming, email sequence, live session, on-demand access, physical shipment, membership or owned-site access.
Bring forward the evidence from Milestones 1–6
- The selected project
- The intended audience and use situation
- The audience outcome
- The documented human contribution
- The central message and three message pillars
- The research findings, comparable-project lessons, risks and constraints
Review the Milestone 6 action plan before choosing a format when those inputs are incomplete.
Use eight decision criteria
| Criterion | Question |
|---|---|
| Audience fit | Can the intended audience realistically access and use it? |
| Outcome fit | Does the format support the result they should achieve? |
| Message fit | Can it carry the central message and pillars clearly? |
| Production feasibility | Can the creator complete it with available time, skill and tools? |
| Maintenance burden | What updates, support or recurring work will it require? |
| Access and accessibility | What barriers could prevent useful participation? |
| Distribution and discovery | Can the audience find and receive it through credible channels? |
| Control and dependency | How dependent is it on one platform, policy or proprietary system? |
Do not choose a format for the wrong reason
Weak reasons
- It is currently popular.
- A competitor uses it.
- It feels prestigious.
- An AI tool makes it quickly.
- It is the only format you have used before.
Stronger reasons
- It fits audience behaviour.
- It supports the intended outcome.
- It carries the message well.
- It is feasible to finish and maintain.
- It preserves appropriate creator control.
Creator-wide examples
| Project | Possible primary format | Possible delivery model | Support assets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Book or guide | Short practical book | eBook and print-on-demand | Checklist, resource page |
| Podcast | Limited audio series | Streaming plus owned episode hub | Transcript, show notes |
| Music project | Single, EP or album | Streaming plus direct-download page | Lyrics, visual clips, story notes |
| Course | Focused training path | Self-paced member access | Workbook, examples, office hours |
| Digital product | Template or toolkit | Immediate download | Quick-start guide, update notes |
| Campaign | Timed content campaign | Email and social sequence | Landing page, lead resource |
| Creator brand | Owned resource hub | Website plus newsletter | Social discovery content |
Primary does not mean only
A project may use several media, but one format should carry the central value. Supporting assets should help people enter, understand, use or continue the primary experience.
Milestone 7 completion standard
- One primary format is named.
- One delivery model is named.
- The audience-use situation is clear.
- Support assets are separated from the primary format.
- Excluded formats are recorded.
- The decision cites Milestone 6 evidence.
- Major feasibility, accessibility and dependency concerns are visible.
- One small first-use test is identified.

Milestone 7 FAQ
Can a project have more than one format?
Yes, but identify one primary format and treat the others as support, adaptation or later expansion.
Is a platform the same as a delivery model?
No. A platform may host or distribute the delivery model, but the model should describe how access and use work even if the platform changes.
Should I choose the cheapest format?
Not automatically. Choose the most responsible fit across audience value, feasibility, maintenance and control.
What if two formats score equally?
Prototype the highest-risk part of each and compare real audience use before committing.
