ElevenLabs Dubbing Workflow: Localize Video Without Treating Translation as Finished Performance
A current Dubbing v2 workflow focused on performance preservation, translation QA and the distinction from legacy Dubbing Studio.
ElevenLabs Dubbing Workflow
Current ElevenLabs Dubbing v2 is designed to translate audio/video while preserving speaker identity, pacing, tone and emotional performance. The self-serve v2 workflow is automatic by default.
Current-product distinction
Dubbing v2: current default automatic dubbing route. Dubbing Studio: legacy v1 editable route and currently in maintenance mode. Do not confuse the two when following old tutorials.
Creator workflow
- Confirm you have rights to localize the source content and voices.
- Prepare the cleanest source audio/video possible.
- Identify source language and intended target locale—not just a generic language label.
- Generate a short or representative dub first when possible.
- Review translation meaning, names, speaker assignment, accent, pacing and emotional intent.
- Have a fluent human review important localization.
- Only scale to additional languages after the workflow passes QA.
Do not treat translation as finished performance
A sentence can be literally correct and still sound culturally wrong, too formal, too long, emotionally flat or unnatural in the target locale. The final test is the listener experience.
Editing reality
Because the current web Dubbing v2 path is automatic, creators needing granular manual correction should verify the current editing options available to their account and workflow. Legacy Dubbing Studio exists for v1 projects but is not the forward-looking product to build a new training system around. The Dubbing v2 API also supports more granular transcript/translation refinement for development workflows.
