Babylon falls, but restoration does not recreate David’s kingdom. Judeans return under Persian rule, rebuild the Temple, elevate Torah and scribal authority, negotiate community boundaries and live beside related Israelite communities whose sacred center is Mount Gerizim. The world is moving toward Second Temple Judaism—but it is not yet the world of Jesus.

What happens when a people gets its Temple back—but not its kingdom?
Persian-period restoration rebuilds institutions without ending imperial rule. That tension helps produce the world Act III will inherit.
