Prompt engineering in Suno is not one giant prompt. It is a sequence of decisions: define the musical lane, map the song, place instructions in the correct field, test one change and move into editing only when the core song is worth saving.

1. Build the musical brief
Start here when results feel random, overloaded or disconnected from the intended emotion.

2. Map the song in Lyrics
Start here when the verse, chorus and bridge blur together, the ending continues too long or bracket cues are being sung aloud.

Working rule: section labels provide a map, but the lyrics must create the contrast. A chorus still needs stronger repetition, vowel flow and emotional lift.

5. Choose the correct editing workflow
