Creator Commerce: Build, Sell & Scale Your Offers
AI Is Already Sending Shoppers to My Shopify Store: Kedra AI Index Explained
Perplexity recommended a Jack Righteous product to a shopper. Here is what Kedra AI Index revealed about AI shopping visibility, why Shopify is positioned for agentic commerce, and how creators can start building for this new discovery channel.

AI Is Already Sending Shoppers to My Shopify Store: Kedra AI Index Explained
I installed Kedra AI Index to understand whether AI assistants could actually see Jack Righteous. Then Perplexity recommended one of my products in a real shopping answer. That changed how I think about Shopify, AI search and the next layer of ecommerce discovery.
A few days ago I received an email with a subject line that got my attention:
“Perplexity just recommended Jack Righteous.”
This was not a generic SEO score. Kedra AI Index had been running daily questions across AI engines and detected Jack Righteous inside a shopping-style answer. The shopper was looking for creator starter bundle options under $20 CAD. Perplexity included my AI Creator Starter Bundle – Music, Writing & Monetization System at $8 CAD alongside competing products.
The important part
An AI assistant did not simply mention my site. It recommended a specific product in response to purchase intent.
That is the reason I am writing this. If you sell digital products, training, creator tools, merchandise or almost anything else online, the question is no longer only, “Can Google find my store?”
There is now another question worth asking:
When someone asks an AI assistant what to buy, does it know your store exists?
Why this makes Shopify more interesting in 2026
Shopify is not treating AI shopping as a side experiment. It is building commerce infrastructure directly around it.
Shopify says its Agentic Storefronts connect eligible merchants with AI shopping channels including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode and Gemini. Shopify also co-developed the Universal Commerce Protocol with Google, designed to help commerce work across AI agents at scale.
In March 2026, Shopify described AI as a new “front door” to commerce and announced broader access for merchants to sell through AI conversations. Its Canadian Agentic plan also describes product syndication to ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, the Shop app and additional surfaces.
Why that matters for a small creator business
You do not need to build separate ecommerce plumbing for every AI assistant. Shopify is increasingly doing that infrastructure work at the platform level while you continue managing products, pricing, checkout and orders from Shopify.
That does not mean every Shopify product automatically gets recommended. It means Shopify is putting merchants in a stronger technical position to participate as AI shopping grows.
And that leads to the problem Kedra is trying to solve: How do you know whether AI systems actually understand and recommend your store?
What Kedra AI Index actually does
Kedra AI Index is a Shopify app focused on AI visibility, often described through terms such as AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AI search visibility.
According to its Shopify App Store listing, Kedra can help merchants:
- track visibility across AI-powered search experiences including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity;
- generate
llms.txtandagents.mdfiles on the store domain; - run AI-readiness and product audits;
- track AI-referred visits and identify which assistants send traffic;
- submit changes through IndexNow automatically;
- identify visibility gaps across products and website content.
Kedra currently lists the app as free on the Shopify App Store. Its own site also says the current plan is free, with AI readiness, attribution, bot controls and indexing features included. As with any app, check its current listing before installing because features and pricing can change.
My first Kedra dashboard: the numbers
My dashboard is still early. I am tracking 10 prompts, so I would not pretend these numbers represent a mature dataset. But they are already useful.
The dashboard also showed an important positioning gap. Jack Righteous was appearing under AI learning resources and creator resources, while several areas I care about—including AI creator training and AI music tools—were still at zero in this early sample.
That is valuable information. It tells me that AI systems may currently understand my store more clearly as a creator-resource business than as the AI music education authority I am continuing to build.
That may be the real value of tracking AI visibility
It shows the gap between what you believe your brand is known for and what AI systems currently appear to understand about it.
I also found a Perplexity order in Shopify
While reviewing my Shopify analytics, I found one order in the last 30 days with Perplexity recorded as the referrer.
I cannot prove that order came from the exact Kedra-tracked recommendation described above, and I am not going to claim that it did. But it confirms something more basic and important: Perplexity traffic has already reached the order layer of my Shopify store.
That makes AI referral tracking worth taking seriously.
This is not magic “AI SEO”
I want to be careful here because this category is going to attract plenty of exaggerated promises.
Installing Kedra does not guarantee that ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity will recommend your products. A Shopify store does not guarantee AI sales. An llms.txt file does not replace good products, useful content, backlinks, clear product data, customer trust or conventional SEO.
Even Kedra’s Shopify listing describes its value in terms of improving AI understanding, measuring readiness, finding gaps and increasing your chances of being cited, recommended and purchased.
That is the right way to think about it.
Why I would start with Shopify if I were building a creator store today
If you are a creator starting from zero, you could spend months comparing platforms. My reason for recommending Shopify is increasingly straightforward: it gives you the normal ecommerce foundation and it is actively building for AI-driven commerce.
Shopify’s current Canadian Basic plan page includes:
- a hosted online storefront;
- payments and checkout;
- product and order management;
- selling online, in person and in AI chats;
- Shopify’s built-in commerce assistant, Sidekick;
- access to an app ecosystem where tools such as Kedra can extend AI visibility measurement.
At publication, Shopify Canada is advertising 3 days free, then $1 CAD/month for the first 3 months for most plans. The initial trial does not require a credit card according to Shopify’s current pricing information.

A practical AI-shopping setup path
- Build the store properly. Use clear product names, prices, descriptions, collections and policies.
- Publish useful supporting content. Product pages alone are rarely enough to establish expertise around a niche.
- Make your products understandable. Avoid vague titles that only make sense to people who already know your brand.
- Use Shopify’s AI-commerce infrastructure as it becomes available to your store. Review Agentic Storefront settings and eligibility instead of assuming every surface is already active.
- Install an AI visibility tool such as Kedra. Run the readiness checks and verify what it exposes about your store.
- Track buyer-intent prompts. Test questions real customers might ask, not vanity prompts designed to force your brand name into the answer.
- Watch competitors. If another store repeatedly appears where you do not, study the content and product information gap.
- Keep doing conventional SEO. AI discovery is an additional channel, not permission to abandon Google.
- Measure referrals and purchases. Traffic is interesting. Orders are what eventually prove commercial value.
What I will be watching next
I am not calling a 17% visibility score a victory. There are only 10 prompts in this first tracking set, and Kedra is still gathering enough scans to establish meaningful trends.
What interests me is what happens next:
- Does Jack Righteous begin appearing more often for AI music training queries?
- Which pages are actually being cited?
- Do ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity behave differently?
- Can improvements to product and educational content change visibility?
- Most importantly, can AI referrals become a measurable source of customers?
I will continue documenting that on JackRighteous.com rather than pretending the answer is already settled.
The bigger takeaway
Google is not disappearing. Social media is not disappearing. Your own website still matters.
But AI assistants are becoming another layer between a customer’s question and a purchase decision. Shopify is building infrastructure for that layer, while tools like Kedra are starting to give merchants visibility into whether they are actually showing up.
For me, the most important moment was not seeing a score on a dashboard.
It was seeing Perplexity recommend a specific Jack Righteous product to someone who was shopping.
That is when “AI search visibility” stopped feeling theoretical.
Want to test this for your own business?
Start with the commerce foundation first. Build a clear store, publish products people can understand, then measure how AI systems see it.
