Scene Five — “You Rock, You Run”

From The First Fall: A Musical Origin of Humanity • Written by Gary Whittaker (Jack Righteous)

Setting

Time: Morning, shortly after Cain leaves Eve’s hut with Jack Righteous to return Abel’s staff.

Place: A small reed-and-clay shelter near the village. The Girl tends Abel’s bandaged leg. Her father sleeps nearby.

Stage Picture: Warm morning light inside; the doorway frames trees and path outside.

Dialogue

ABEL: You stayed up again.

GIRL: Fever eased. Your leg didn’t. Rest can wait.

ABEL: Then I owe you twice.

GIRL: (teasing) Walk first. Then owe me.

She tightens the wrap. Abel reaches to his side.

ABEL: Where’s my staff?

GIRL: I hoped Jack made it back with the broken one.

ABEL: Don’t worry about Jack. He could probably drop the lion himself.

Outside on the path (unseen by them), Cain approaches with the repaired staff, Jack beside him. They pause, hearing voices. Cain’s hand tightens on the rod. They remain out of sight.

A gentle rhythm builds under their breath. The Girl hums; Abel answers. The song begins.

[meta_instrumentation: tribal drums, acoustic guitar, bass pulse, ambient strings, crowd chant at finale]

[Verse 1 – Gentle Start] [Male Vocals]
Grit on your boots, dust on your skin,
You faced the wild and still walked in.
Scars don’t hide — they show what’s true,
The fire that lived inside of you.

[Verse 2 – Lift in Energy] [Male Vocals]
The night was dark, the wind was mean,
But you moved through it, calm and clean.
The world might break what it can’t tame,
But love remembers every name.

[Chorus – Anthemic, Bright] [Male Vocals]
You rock, you run — you run to (tooo!)
You rock, you run — you run through (oooh!)
Driven by the fire in your soul,
You move the world — you make it whole.

[Verse 3 – Male Vocals]
Silent hearts still hear your sound,
When fear would flee, you stand your ground.
[Male Lead Vocals]
They run from storms, you face the rain,
And I would rise to feel that again.

[Bridge – Counter Melody, Soft Reflection]
Faces blur, but yours stays clear,
You taught me strength was born from fear.
If hope’s a road, then I’ll be dust,
Chasing your name — because I must.

[Chorus – Build / Tempo Up]
You rock, you run — you run to (tooo!)
You rock, you run — you run through (oooh!)
Blazing trails that light the night (alright!)
Love’s the drum that keeps you right.

[Final Chorus – Expanded, Climactic] [Female Lead Vocals]
You rock, you run — you rise, you fall,
Still you stand, you give it all.
Through the fire, through the flood,
You turned the earth, you changed my blood.
You rock, you run — you run true,
And every heartbeat runs to you.

[Outro – Instrumental Breakdown / Fade]
[Drums echo, guitar drifts, faint chant reprise] [duet]
You rock… you run…
You run… to love.

Staging Notes:
• Verses 1–2 and first chorus: only Abel and The Girl in light; doorway stays dim.
• Mid–Verse 2: a subtle light reveal shows Cain and Jack outside, unseen by the lovers; bass textures deepen.
• Bridge: Abel and The Girl close; outside, Cain’s jaw sets, grip tightening on the staff.
• Final chorus: Abel and The Girl sing in harmony; Cain remains hidden, visible only to the audience.

Button

The last chord hangs. Abel and The Girl share a quiet smile. Outside, Cain steps back into the trees, the staff creaking in his fist. Jack holds, watching him.
