Music Genie Review 2026: AI Video-to-Music, Pricing, Licensing & Detector Claims

Published October 2026 · Jack Righteous · Creator Tools Lab

The short answer

Music Genie is worth investigating if you need original background music that follows the pacing of your video. Rather than making a song first and finding footage afterward, the product says it analyzes your clip and generates a soundtrack around it. This is a preliminary review based on the company's public documentation and independent app-store listings. We have not yet tested a finished export, license certificate, AI detector, or Content ID dispute.

Current editorial status: interesting tool, real public app listings, unresolved pricing and rights questions. Not yet a verified recommendation for copyright or monetization safety.

1. What is Music Genie?

Music Genie is an AI music creation service focused on pairing video clips with generated soundtracks. It offers a web-based video-to-music tool as well as mobile apps. The publicly listed iOS developer is Derek Gallardo, and the Google Play listing identifies Kinetic Helix LLC as its developer organization. Those are platform listing details, not an independent audit of corporate ownership, sales volume or licensing rights.

The advertised workflow includes video analysis, mood or style selection, automatic music creation, regenerated variations, dialogue-aware music levels and export options. The website says an uploaded video can be any length but the first 30 seconds are analyzed for its music direction. That limitation deserves testing on longer videos.

2. How the video-to-music workflow is supposed to work

  1. Bring a video: upload a clip or, where available, paste a supported video URL. The website also offers sample footage.
  2. Choose direction: allow automatic mood selection or specify a custom music prompt, style or energy.
  3. Generate a score: Music Genie advertises music matched to the visual rhythm and mood, often within seconds. Actual processing time and quality will vary and remain unverified in our testing.
  4. Compare variations: regenerate the score to test whether a different instrument, intensity or emotional direction serves the edit better.
  5. Export and check: verify file quality, the exact license that applies to your account and whether the result works when played inside a finished edit.

Where this could help creators

  • YouTube and educational video: instrumentals designed to sit underneath dialogue or explainers.
  • Short-form promotional clips: music that follows scene cuts without manually editing a stock-library track.
  • Podcasts and storytelling: intros, transition beds and supporting instrumentals when licensed for the specific project.
  • Client video and event recaps: potentially useful if the exact paid license permits the intended paid use and project scope.

Music Genie is not a direct substitute for a full original song creation workflow in Suno. For vocals, songs with sections and personal artist development, a song-first tool may be a more natural starting point.

3. Music Genie pricing: verify your checkout, not just the marketing

Important: we found contradictory numbers in official mobile-store descriptions. Do not assume the figures below are the current Canadian checkout prices, and do not interpret them as an apples-to-apples plan comparison until the company confirms quotas and currencies.

Listing Free Creator Pro Studio
Apple App Store description (US page) 5 generations/day; 60-second max US$12/month; 50 generations/month; 3-minute tracks US$29/month; 200/month; up to 5 minutes US$79/month; advertised unlimited
Google Play description 3 generations/day US$19/month; 500 generations/month US$39/month; 1,500 generations/month US$99/month; advertised unlimited

Sources: Apple App Store and Google Play public descriptions accessed for this research. Apple also displays separate in-app purchase prices, which can differ by account, currency and purchase channel.

Both listings make the tool look accessible, but the actual cost per useful exported soundtrack is a better buying metric than headline generation counts. Confirm whether a failed generation consumes a credit, whether regeneration is charged, what happens to downloads after cancellation and whether unused credits expire. The company's refund policy says unused monthly generation credits do not roll over.

4. Commercial-use rights, Content ID and licensing certificates

Music Genie promotes commercial-use licensing and a verifiable certificate identifier for paid generations. Its YouTube Shorts materials describe certificates intended to assist in platform disputes. That is a potentially useful feature, but important distinctions remain:

  • Permission is not the same as copyright ownership. A service can license uses of an output without establishing that the user owns a legally protected musical composition or recording.
  • A certificate is not an immunity shield. Even a valid license does not guarantee that YouTube, TikTok, a distributor or another claimant will never flag an upload.
  • Content ID eligibility is separate. Permission to publish a soundtrack in a monetized video does not automatically authorize registering its recording as exclusive reference material in Content ID.
  • Check the actual scope: client work, ads, podcasts, commercial social posts, direct music distribution, sublicensing, stem exports, subscription cancellation and territories may have different conditions.
Our position: we cannot endorse categorical language such as “100% copyright safe,” “no claims” or guaranteed monetization without evidence. Music Genie uses some of that language in its own promotional pages. We will test documentation and seek clarification before describing the certificate as more than vendor-issued evidence of a stated license.

Before we recommend it for serious commercial work, we'd want a redacted real-world license certificate, the exact paid-plan contract, a method to validate the certificate ID and evidence of how a platform handles it in a dispute.

5. The free AI music detector: useful experiment, not proof

Music Genie also offers a browser-based AI audio detector. It advertises recognition of signatures linked to music-generation systems including Suno, Udio and other models, with MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and OGG accepted up to 25 MB. The page says the forensic system uses the Sealed Rose API.

What a creator needs is not merely a confident-looking score, but a known false-positive and false-negative rate. Audio that has been mastered, stem-separated, compressed, rerecorded or altered may behave differently from source material. A detector result alone cannot establish authorship, copyright status, licensing authority or fraud.

What a fair test would look like

  1. Scan known human-recorded reference tracks with clear provenance.
  2. Scan known AI-created source files from several tools and model versions.
  3. Repeat after MP3 compression, mastering and stem processing.
  4. Log confident results and errors; do not rely only on the result for one selected file.
  5. Ask the developer for methodology, sample size, model/version coverage, calibration and published evaluation data.

Until that evidence exists, the detector is best treated as an exploratory signal—not a release gatekeeper or legal certificate.

6. Upload privacy and data retention

Video creators may upload unreleased projects, client footage, private events or other sensitive material. We found a question that should be resolved before recommending this service for confidential work:

The privacy policy says original uploaded video is processed and deleted within 24 hours, while the video-to-music upload interface says files are stored for three days. This may refer to different storage layers, but the distinction is not clear on the public pages reviewed. Creators should confirm the real retention schedule, what remains in backups, treatment of metadata and whether model training uses uploaded content.

For initial testing, use a non-confidential clip that you own and can freely upload.

7. Who should consider Music Genie?

Creator goal Preliminary fit Why
Generate a custom soundtrack to match a finished video Potentially strong This is Music Genie's central advertised workflow.
Make a full song with expressive vocal structure Not the clearest match Song-first tools such as Suno target a different creative task.
License stock background tracks without AI generation Compare alternatives A conventional music library may offer simpler provenance or predictable costs.
Deliver music with high assurance for client advertising Verify first Certificate scope, privacy and legal terms need examination.
Determine with certainty whether a recording is AI-made Not established No independently validated accuracy benchmark has been established here.

8. Our hands-on Music Genie review plan

This published page is a research-stage brief, not a claim that we've completed testing. We plan to evaluate the following with a real, rights-cleared Jack Righteous creator project:

  1. Basic generation: create scores from the same short clip using automatic mode and two contrasting prompts.
  2. Beat and mood alignment: inspect whether transitions really follow major visual changes.
  3. Speech handling: test a video with narration and listen for appropriate music ducking.
  4. Editing: regenerate and compare how consistently the soundtrack fits the original edit.
  5. Download experience: test MP3/WAV options, length, quality, stems, metadata and credit consumption.
  6. Rights evidence: inspect an actual certificate, check its ID, and compare its wording with the legal terms.
  7. AI detector: use a balanced reference set and report false positives as well as successes.
  8. Value: count the total generations and time required to produce one video-ready soundtrack.

What could change our verdict? A solid workflow test, consistent pricing, transparent data retention and clear evidence for commercial rights could turn this into a genuinely useful recommendation. Poor music-to-edit alignment or unsupported copyright guarantees would change the conclusion in the other direction.

9. Sources, disclosure and next step

We used official product pages and independent app-store listings. Marketing descriptions are identified as claims, not demonstrated results:

Editorial disclosure: Music Genie contacted JackRighteous.com about possible inclusion in an existing rights report and offered a reciprocal mention. This page was independently researched; it is not a sponsored placement or completed hands-on endorsement. No compensation is asserted here. If that changes, the disclosure will be updated.
