What Suno says may block generation
Suno’s moderation help page says songs may not generate when the request includes:
- names of well-known artists or people
- copyrighted or trademarked terms
- derogatory or defamatory terms
- excessive profanity
- other inappropriate topics or phrases
Suno does not promise to identify the exact word that triggered the block. A failed request also does not prove that every part of your song violates a rule.
Controlled diagnosis
Seven steps to find and fix the trigger
- Save the exact error. Record the title, model, workflow and whether you used custom lyrics.
- Test a neutral request. Try a short, original genre-and-mood description without custom lyrics.
- Test the Style prompt alone. Remove artist, band, public-figure, song, album, brand and producer-tag references.
- Test the lyrics alone. Use a simple neutral Style prompt with the same lyric.
- Check the title. Temporarily replace it with a plain working title.
- Use the half-and-half method. Test half the lyrics, keep narrowing the failing half, then rewrite only the suspect line.
- Stop when it becomes a policy or ownership dispute. Save evidence and contact Suno support instead of repeatedly guessing.

- Save a copy of the complete lyric.
- Test the first half with a neutral Style prompt.
- Test the second half separately.
- Divide the failing half again.
- Continue until one short passage remains.
- Review that passage for protected names, copied phrases, targeting, threats, slurs, explicit wording or ambiguous slang.
- Rewrite the smallest necessary portion and restore the remaining lyric.
This is faster and safer than randomly deleting the song’s strongest lines.

Does Suno allow swearing or explicit lyrics?
Suno’s public moderation page specifically lists excessive profanity as a reason a song may not generate. It does not publish a dependable list of allowed words or a universal number of permitted uses.
If a legitimate song is blocked, test whether repeated profanity is the trigger. Reduce repetition or replace some instances with imagery, implication or clean alternatives. Do not assume that changing spelling to conceal prohibited content makes the request acceptable.
