Your first useful AI-assisted draft does not need to sound finished. It needs to contain your meaning, your examples and enough structure to work with.

Use AI to assemble your material without letting polish erase the evidence of how you naturally communicate.
Use this workflow
- Give AI your core message and reader situation.
- Include rough notes, phrases and examples you want preserved.
- Ask for a working draft rather than a final version.
- Require AI to mark places where it had to infer meaning.
- Keep anything that sounds unmistakably like you even if it is not perfectly polished.
Why this matters
AI is very good at producing language that looks finished. That makes it easy to skip the human decision that should have happened first. This step slows the process down just enough to keep the meaning, reader and purpose visible before the writing gets more polished.
A prompt you can actually use
Copy and adapt:
Build a working first draft from my notes. Preserve my strongest phrases and examples. Do not add facts or make the tone more promotional. Mark any place where you had to infer meaning so I can review it.
What a useful AI response should do
A useful response should make the decision easier to inspect. It should surface options, gaps, contradictions or patterns without quietly converting them into a final answer. You should still be able to see where your judgment enters the process.
Your five-minute exercise

What the human still decides
AI can help you organize, compare, question and revise. It cannot decide what you truly mean, what deserves emphasis, what is accurate enough to publish, or which version you are willing to stand behind. Keep those decisions with you.
