How to Distribute AI Music in 2026 | Release Guide

Righteous Track Builder · Release

Distribute the release-ready track.

This page is for one job: delivering a finished, documented AI-assisted music project to the right distributor and stores without confusing distribution with ownership, promotion, or monetization.

Prerequisite: You should already have one approved master and a documented release-readiness decision. If the track is not yet cleared, complete the Release Readiness Route first.

1. Confirm the release package

Before opening a distributor upload form, make sure the exact release package is stable. A distributor should receive the version you actually intend to keep public.

Audio

  • Final lossless master
  • Correct song title and version name
  • Final lyrics
  • Clean or instrumental version only when needed

Rights + evidence

  • AI tool and account details
  • Uploaded-source permissions
  • Sample, beat, loop and collaborator records
  • Voice and performer consent where relevant

Metadata + artwork

  • Artist and contributor names
  • Genre, language and explicit status
  • Approved square artwork
  • Identifiers when assigned
  • Required AI disclosure fields
Distribution is delivery. It does not itself prove copyright ownership, clear third-party material, guarantee discovery, or make a track eligible for Content ID.

2. Choose the distributor by fit

Do not choose a distributor because its logo is familiar. Choose based on how often you release, how you want to pay, what happens to your catalogue if you stop paying, the support model, and whether its current AI policy fits the exact project.

Distributor type Typical model Useful when Question to verify
DistroKid Recurring subscription with optional extras You plan repeated releases and want a maintained catalogue workflow Do your rights records and AI disclosures satisfy the current upload requirements?
TuneCore Subscription plans and additional artist services You want distribution with broader administration options Which services and AI-content rules apply to your plan?
CD Baby Per-release model You prefer paying by release instead of maintaining a subscription What are the current review, commission and AI-content requirements?
LANDR / Amuse / Ditto / RouteNote Subscription, free-share or hybrid models Your workflow benefits from their specific pricing, tools or artist limits What happens to catalogue access, support and AI-assisted releases under the current terms?

Pricing and AI policies change. Verify the current distributor terms before purchase or submission.

3. DistroKid route

If DistroKid fits the project, enter the upload with the release package already complete. Do not use the upload form to decide credits, rights, artwork, or song identity for the first time.

Good fit

  • You plan multiple releases.
  • Your artist identity and metadata are stable.
  • You can document the rights chain.
  • You can complete AI-related credit or disclosure fields accurately.

Pause first

  • The track is still experimental.
  • Your rights file is incomplete.
  • You are unsure about a voice, beat, sample or uploaded source.
  • You expect distribution itself to create an audience.

4. Complete the upload carefully

Select the exact artist identity. Keep spelling, punctuation and contributor roles consistent across releases.
Upload the final master and artwork. Do not submit a version you already expect to replace.
Enter metadata exactly. Confirm title, version, contributors, songwriter information, language, genre and explicit status.
Complete AI disclosures accurately. Report generated lyrics, music or audio where the distributor requires it. Do not invent human contributors or understate AI use.
Review rights declarations before agreeing. A contractual upload declaration is not the place to guess about permissions.
Save the submission evidence. Preserve receipts, identifiers, declarations and the exact metadata delivered.

5. Verify store delivery

Submission is not completion. Once the release is delivered, verify the public result.

Spotify + Apple Music

  • Correct artist page
  • Correct title, artwork and explicit status
  • Correct contributor credits where displayed
  • Release date and profile mapping

YouTube Music + other DSPs

  • Correct Art Track or release mapping
  • Correct artist identity
  • No duplicate or mismatched listings
  • Content ID treated separately from ordinary distribution
Do not buy guaranteed streams or playlist placement. Distribution should create legitimate availability, not artificial activity.

6. Preserve identifiers and continuity

Keep the exact master, release date, metadata, ISRC, UPC or other assigned identifiers, artwork and distributor records in the Creator Project Record. If you later change distributors, treat it as a controlled migration rather than a casual delete-and-reupload.

  1. Preserve the existing master and metadata.
  2. Record current identifiers and release date.
  3. Follow the new distributor's transfer procedure.
  4. Use the existing ISRC for an identical recording when continuity is appropriate.
  5. Verify the replacement delivery before removing the old one unless the distributor instructs otherwise.
  6. Keep evidence from both distributors until the migration is stable.
Do not reuse an ISRC for a materially different recording, remix, edit or newly recorded performance.

Release is complete when the delivery is traceable

The Release stage is complete when the approved master is live or delivered as intended, the artist mapping and metadata are verified, the identifiers are recorded, and the submission evidence has been added to the project record.

Something is wrong
