- Narrow hum or whistle: inspect frequency and consider Notch Filter.
- Noise mainly between phrases: Noise Gate may help.
- Clipping: lowering volume afterward does not recreate lost peaks; source replacement or dedicated clip repair may be needed.
- Changing warble/distortion: broad noise reduction may be the wrong tool.
Preservation workflow
- Digitize or import the best available source.
- Keep an untouched archival copy.
- Work on a duplicate/project version.
