Solomon in Judaism, Christianity & Islam: Shlomo, Son of David & Prophet Sulayman

Solomon is shared—but not identical—across the traditions.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam all remember the son of David as an extraordinary ruler associated with wisdom, but each tradition develops his significance through different texts and theological commitments.
Judaism
In the Hebrew Bible, Shlomo is David’s successor, the Temple builder and the king whose wisdom and splendor become famous. The same biblical corpus preserves severe criticism of his accumulation and his turn toward other gods. Later Jewish tradition expands his wisdom, judgment and legendary dimensions, but the canonical critique remains part of the story.
Christianity
Christian readers inherit the Hebrew Bible’s Solomon narrative and wisdom associations. The New Testament uses Solomon as a benchmark: Jesus refers to Solomon’s glory and says that something greater than Solomon is present; the Queen of the South becomes part of Jesus’ teaching about response to wisdom. Christian tradition also reads the Davidic royal line toward Jesus, while not needing to pretend Solomon’s own reign was morally flawless.
Islam
The Qur’an presents Sulayman as a prophet and king gifted by God. He understands creatures, commands extraordinary forces by divine permission and appears in the Saba/queen narrative. This portrayal should not simply be fused with 1 Kings. Islamic theology generally handles prophetic integrity differently from Kings’ account of Solomon’s idolatry.
Comparison without harmonization
The useful question is not “which religion has the same Solomon?” They do not. The useful comparison is how each tradition uses Solomon to think about wisdom, kingship, revelation, gratitude, power and accountability.
