Melody Genie Free Plan 2026: What You Can Actually Test

Do not spend the free allowance trying to get lucky. Use it to answer one question: does Melody Genie make your songwriting process better?

Jack Righteous · Updated September 1, 2026

Accuracy notice: Melody Genie’s public pages currently disagree on some exact credit amounts and song-generation costs. Because those numbers are volatile, this guide no longer hard-codes “two free lyrics per month” or another fixed allowance as if it were permanent. Confirm the current live allowance in the app or official pricing page before planning around a specific number of generations.

What the free plan is for

The free plan should help you decide whether Melody Genie solves a real creative bottleneck before you pay. The best test is not a throwaway prompt. Use a song idea you already care about and see whether the platform helps you move from vague direction to material you can actually revise.

The JR free-plan test

1

Choose one real song

Use a project where you already know what is stuck: blank-page friction, a weak hook, a verse that does not progress, lyrics that do not fit the beat, or a draft that sounds too generic.

2

Give it one honest sentence

Define what the song is actually about before adding a long style brief. A clear situation gives you something to judge later.

3

Use the tool that matches the problem

If the current free tier gives you access to the needed feature, use that feature once with intent. Do not bounce through every available control just because it exists.

4

Revise before regenerating

Change the lines that are false, vague or generic. The strongest signal that a songwriting tool is helping is that you start editing rather than repeatedly asking the model to start over.

5

Hear the song if the live allowance permits it

Melody Genie now extends into full-song generation. If your current free credits support that step, use it to test whether the lyric survives performance. If not, you can still move the revised lyric into another generator or your normal production workflow.

What to judge

Specificity

Did the writing become more concrete, or is it still generic emotion dressed in rhyme?

Hook value

Did you get a phrase or structure worth developing further?

Progression

Does each section move the song somewhere new rather than repeating the same idea?

Editability

Can you clearly see how to make the draft sound more like you?

Beat fit

If rhythm is the problem, do the words actually survive being spoken, rapped or sung over the instrumental?

Momentum

Did the tool get you unstuck enough to continue working on the song?

What not to do

  • Do not use every free credit on random test prompts.
  • Do not treat the first generated lyric as finished work.
  • Do not assume a named artist reference makes the output original.
  • Do not upgrade merely because the free allowance feels small.
  • Do not rely on an old screenshot or article for current plan numbers.

When paying may make sense

Paying becomes more rational when you have already proven that the workflow helps and can name the exact paid capability you need more of: additional songwriting runs, Beat Matcher, DNA Mixer, Custom Lyricist, song generation, or another current feature. If you cannot identify the bottleneck, a larger plan may simply give you more ways to wander.
