Before you begin

You should already have a Keeper, Goal, Protected Value, Specific Problem and First Intervention. If you do not, complete the Suno Studio 2.0 Start Here lesson before doing this lab.
You also need: one Suno project or song worth protecting and a way to return to the untouched version.
What you will finish
You are not trying to finish the entire production. You are creating evidence for one creative decision.
- One preserved keeper version.
- One clearly defined work zone or problem area.
- One primary Studio intervention.
- One before-and-after comparison.
- One decision: KEEP CHANGE, REVISE ONCE or RESTORE.
- One short record explaining what you learned and what happens next.
Step 1 — Protect the keeper
Before you change anything, confirm which version contains the material you do not want to lose. A project that auto-saves is not the same thing as a workflow with an intentional recovery point.

Step 2 — Shrink the problem
Do not enter Studio with “make it better.” Name one observable failure and where it happens.

Step 3 — Define what “better” means before you edit
Choose two or three things you should be able to hear if the edit succeeds. This prevents novelty from winning just because it sounds different.
Main idea arrives sooner.
Transition still feels natural.
Emotional setup survives.
Words are easier to understand.
Lead still feels like the same performance identity.
Backing parts still support instead of compete.
Problem layer is cleaner.
Groove remains intact.
Replacement fits the full arrangement.

Step 4 — Choose one primary intervention
Choose the smallest action that can test your diagnosis. Do not combine several major changes before you listen again.

Step 5 — Make the change, then stop
Run the intervention you defined. Do not add another unrelated move because you noticed a second problem while working.
Step 6 — Compare it fairly
Listen in two contexts. First, compare the problem area. Then listen far enough before and after the edit to hear whether the change still belongs in the song.
A — Keeper
What was already strong? What was failing?
B — Changed version
Did the defined problem improve? What new weakness appeared?
Context check
Does B still work when you stop listening only to the edited section?
Judge against the success criteria you wrote before the change.
Step 7 — Make one decision
The intervention clearly improves the defined problem and preserves the protected value.
The direction is promising, but one small correction to the same intervention is justified.
The change does not beat the keeper, creates a worse tradeoff or solves the wrong problem.
A restored keeper is a successful lab result when you learned why the change did not belong.

Success criterion
You can show the keeper and changed version to another person and explain exactly what you changed, why you changed it, and why the final decision was justified.

If you completed one controlled edit successfully, do not assume every remaining problem belongs in the same tool. Choose the next route by the job.
