What you will finish
- Three clear reference priorities
- An original story and song thesis
- An original Spanish hook
- A syllable, stress and breath map
- A production brief Suno can interpret
- A controlled generation and correction plan
The finished song should be describable without naming the reference.
Step 1
Translate “I Want Something Like This” Into Production Language
Naming a song is not a production brief. Separate what attracts you into emotional, storytelling, structural and production functions.
Emotional function
Nostalgia, regret, gratitude, unresolved loss, adult reflection or hope.
Story function
A present-day trigger, specific memories, a relationship and a later realization.
Structural function
Intimate opening, gradual lift, broad chorus, exposed bridge and final release.
Production function
Guitar-led arrangement, live-band pulse, dynamic contrast and a clear vocal centre.
Reference Priority Card
| Broad functions you may study | Expression that must not transfer |
|---|---|
| Emotional arc, section purpose, contrast, pacing, instrument roles, phrase density and general genre conventions | Lyrics, disguised paraphrases, recognizable melody, signature riffs, vocal identity, recording elements or a distinctive combination that makes the source recognizable |
Originality test: Could a listener describe your new song without mentioning the reference?
Step 2
Replace the Source With Human Story Material
The strongest protection against imitation is not a longer prompt. It is a stronger human source.
Human Source Sheet
Song Thesis
When [present trigger] brings back [person, place or object], the narrator remembers [specific period or struggle] and realizes [truth that changes the meaning of the memory].
Three thesis tests
- Specific: It should not fit thousands of generic nostalgia songs.
- Singable: The emotional truth must not require a paragraph of explanation.
- Transformative: The ending should reveal something the narrator did not fully understand at the beginning.
Step 3
Write the Song in Spanish From the Inside Out
A singable Spanish lyric is a new act of songwriting. Do not write an English song, replace each word and force the result into the same rhythm.
- Define the story and section function.
- Write the emotional thought naturally in Spanish.
- Compress it for the phrase.
- Adjust stress, breath and vowel placement.
- Confirm that the speaker still sounds human.
Spanish Voice Profile
Common translation failures
- Too many syllables
- Formal wording in an intimate song
- Translated idioms or unnatural word order
- Forced rhyme
- Repeated abstract nouns
- Religious language that sounds written rather than lived
Replace generic AI lyric language with specific human detail.
Step 4
Map Syllables, Stress, Breath and Vowels
Syllable count matters, but exact imitation is not the goal. Measure phrase capacity: how much language the phrase can hold while remaining natural, intelligible and emotionally clear.
Written syllables
The count visible on the page.
Sung attacks
How many distinct syllable events the voice delivers.
Main stresses
The meaningful syllables that need strong beats or melodic emphasis.
Landing vowel
The vowel that must survive a held note or hook ending.
| Lyric line | Written / sung count | Main stresses | Breath and landing vowel | Revision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
The four-pass vocal test
- Speak: Would the narrator actually say this?
- Tap: Do important stresses align with the pulse?
- Sing: Can the phrase be delivered without rushing?
- Record: Does a simple phone recording reveal a problem silent reading missed?
Original Hook Builder
Preserve North American Rock Through the Full Arrangement
- Rhythm: live-kit feel, solid backbeat, controlled fills and grounded bass.
- Guitars: acoustic or clean foundation, layered electrics and controlled distortion.
- Arrangement: restrained verse, clear pre-chorus lift, wider chorus, reduced bridge and earned final expansion.
- Vocal: natural Spanish diction, emotional growth and no celebrity imitation.
- Mix: intelligible vocal, guitar width, defined snare, controlled low end and real section contrast.
Step 5
Build a Suno Brief From Decisions, Not Artist Names
Baseline Example
Spanish-language melodic rock with an adult reflective narrator, natural conversational Spanish, warm acoustic-guitar foundation, layered electric guitars, firm live-band backbeat, grounded bass, restrained memory-driven verses, rising pre-chorus, broad original chorus, exposed bridge and a final section that transforms regret into hope. Clear vocal centre, organic dynamics, controlled distortion and an original vocal identity.
Your Style Brief
Step 6
Generate in Controlled Rounds
| Round | Primary question | What to judge |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Does the song work? | Story, hook, emotional credibility and natural Spanish |
| 2 | Can the vocal deliver it? | Stress, rushing, breath, held vowels and diction |
| 3 | Is the vocal identity right? | Change one vocal variable only |
| 4 | Does the arrangement move? | Intro density, chorus width, bridge reduction and final lift |
| 5 | Which version deserves correction? | Compare the best two or three with the same scorecard |
| Version | What works | What fails | Keep unchanged | Next action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Compare by Function, Not Likeness
| Desired function | How the reference performs it | Your original solution | Correction needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening invitation | |||
| Verse intimacy | |||
| Chorus release | |||
| Bridge revelation | |||
| Final transformation |
