King Saul as an AI Character-Design Case Study: Power, Fear and Decline

Power becomes dramatically useful when it changes what a character is afraid to lose.

King Saul is a strong case study for AI-assisted storytelling because his arc is not simply “good king becomes bad king.” It contains authority, insecurity, obedience, fear, rivalry, public pressure and loss.

Design the decline as a sequence

Instead of asking AI to make Saul “darker,” track a progression:

  1. What does he value?
  2. What threatens that value?
  3. What shortcut does he take?
  4. What consequence follows?
  5. What does he become willing to do next?

Separate source from invention

When adapting a biblical figure, label invented motives and private dialogue as fiction. A generated explanation for why Saul acts is not the same as the text itself.

Reusable prompt

“Build three scenes showing a leader becoming more defensive as authority feels less secure. Do not invent source facts. Label every motive you add as FICTIONAL INTERPRETATION.”
