Direct answer: ElevenLabs text-to-speech is nondeterministic, so the same text can produce different results. You can reduce variation with more stable settings, consistent model/voice choices and—in API workflows—a seed, but subtle differences can still remain.
Variation is part of the system
ElevenLabs explicitly says generated output is nondeterministic. Slider values define a range of behavior rather than a guaranteed identical take.
Check whether you changed models
A different model can change the voice performance even if the voice and script are the same. ElevenLabs notes that API and website output can differ when they use different models.
Check stability and similarity
Lower stability and lower similarity can increase variation between generations. Raise them carefully if consistency matters more than expressive range.
API users can use a seed
ElevenLabs documents an optional seed for more consistent output. It does not make the system perfectly deterministic, but it can reduce unwanted drift.
Save the winning take
