The 7-Day Held Journey

Seven gentle Christian reflections for a heavy season. Not seven days to fix yourself—seven opportunities to tell the truth, bring what is heavy before God, receive support, and choose one faithful next step.

How to Use This Journey

Use one day at a time, repeat a day, skip a day, or take longer than a week. The point is not completion. The point is honest, sustainable reflection.

If you do not yet know what is wrong, begin with the 15 Christian Emotional Reflection Prompts. They use a simple map: Moment → Emotion → Fear → Need → Faithful Movement.

You are not required to feel better by Day 7. You are simply making room for truth, prayer, support and one next movement.

Day 1 · Tell the Truth

What am I actually carrying?

Begin without fixing, explaining or comparing. Name one burden that is present today.

Write: “What feels heaviest today is…”

Then: “What I keep pretending does not affect me is…”

Prayer: “God, help me tell the truth without shame.”

Day 2 · Sort the Weight

Which parts are mine—and which are not?

A heavy situation often feels like one giant responsibility. Separate it into smaller categories.

Mine to address

My words, choice, boundary, appointment or responsibility.

Ours to share

Work that should not belong to one person alone.

Theirs to carry

Another adult’s decisions, reactions or consequences.

God’s to hold

The outcome, timing and what I cannot control.

Day 3 · Pray Honestly

What can I say to God without polishing it?

Use four short lines when a full prayer feels impossible.

God, this is what I am carrying: ______.

This is what I cannot control: ______.

This is what I need today: ______.

This is what I place before You: ______.

Day 4 · Receive Support

What would reduce the weight by ten percent?

Do not ask, “Who can fix this?” Ask what small form of support would make today more manageable.

Choose one: listening, a meal, transportation, childcare, an appointment, help with paperwork, prayer, professional guidance, rest, or a specific task.

Write one request: “I am dealing with ____. I do not need you to fix it. Could you help me by ____?”

Day 5 · Receive Without Performing

Can something good be present while the pain is still real?

Notice one moment of peace, joy, rest or connection without asking it to prove that you are healed.

Complete: “Something that is still hard is _____. Something good I can receive today is _____.”

Day 6 · Protect What the Season Revealed

What should not return to the old version of normal?

A heavy season can expose an unsustainable responsibility, missing boundary, one-sided relationship or neglected source of support.

Leave behind: One pattern I do not want to rebuild is…

Carry forward: One boundary, person or practice I want to keep is…

Protect: One warning sign I will take seriously earlier next time is…

Day 7 · Choose One Faithful Movement

What is the next step—not the whole plan?

Choose one action proportionate to your present capacity. It might be a call, boundary, appointment, request, rest decision, prayer, conversation or a decision to wait for more information.

What I now understand more clearly is…

What I am not responsible for is…

The support I want to keep is…

My next faithful step is…

Optional: Express What You Mapped

Some people want to keep the reflection private. Others find that writing, journaling or music helps give form to what they discovered. Creative expression is optional and is not therapy.

Reflection Is Not a Replacement for Care

This seven-day journey offers general Christian encouragement and guided personal reflection. It is not psychotherapy, diagnosis, medical treatment, counselling, pastoral care or crisis support. Persistent hopelessness, inability to function, abuse, thoughts of self-harm, or immediate danger deserve qualified local support.

Seven Days Do Not Have to Finish the Story.

If this journey helped you name what is true, that is already useful. Continue slowly. Keep the support that helped. Protect the boundaries you discovered. Take the next step that is actually yours.
