Build Your First Shopify Onboarding Funnel Plan

Turn the free training into one real customer journey you can actually build.

Complete the fields on this page using a real free offer and paid offer. When you finish, use your browser's Print command to save the completed plan as a PDF.

What Apply is for

Learn gives you the strategy. Apply helps you finish one complete onboarding plan. Build is the reusable paid system for doing this again across future products and funnels.

Use one real offer. Do not complete this with a fictional example just to fill the boxes.

Included with qualifying paid JR access

Paid member? Do not pay twice for the Builder.

Complete Access, VIP Plus and active $5 Training Subscription members receive the Shopify Onboarding Funnel Builder at no additional cost while their qualifying access applies.

Sign in with the same JackRighteous.com customer account connected to your paid access before you open BUILD or the product. If your entitlement is not recognized, have it checked before making a standalone purchase.

Standalone public price: C$9.99. Free-member registration alone does not include the premium Builder.

What you should leave with

Free → Paid

Your free offer, first free win, value gap, paid offer and four-message conversion path.

Customer States

The free-user state, purchase exit rule, paid-customer state and key exclusions.

Post-Purchase

The shortest useful 4–7 message onboarding journey for the buyer.

Build Plan

Enough approved logic to take into ChatGPT, Shopify Sidekick and your Shopify admin.

Before you type: these fields are browser inputs. Keep this page open while you work and save/print your completed plan before refreshing or closing the tab.

1. Define the free experience

2. Define the paid offer

3. Map the four-message free-to-paid journey

The sequence is Deliver → First Win → Go Deeper → Decide. Each message needs one job.

MESSAGE 1 — DELIVER

Give access, tell them what to do first and set the next expectation.

MESSAGE 2 — FIRST WIN

Help the free user use what they received and reach a real result.

MESSAGE 3 — GO DEEPER

Add value, address an obstacle or second use case, and make the natural free→paid gap visible.

MESSAGE 4 — DECIDE

Explain who the paid offer is for, what it adds and the clear next action without fake urgency.

Purchase rule: before every delayed sales-oriented message, re-check whether the customer already bought the qualifying product. If yes, stop the prospect sales path and transition them into customer onboarding.

4. Define the customer states

Do not build Flow until you can explain who the customer is now and what should happen next. Review the Customer Segments + State Logic Learn guide if this part is unclear.

5. Map the post-purchase journey

Start with four messages. Add 5–7 only when each one does a different job. Review the post-purchase Learn guide if needed.

1 — WELCOME / ACCESS
2 — FIRST PAID WIN
3 — SECOND USEFUL ACTION
4 — REMOVE FRICTION / FAQ
5 — BETTER RESULTS · OPTIONAL
6 — REINFORCE VALUE · OPTIONAL
7 — NEXT APPROPRIATE STEP · OPTIONAL

6. Turn the plan into production copy with ChatGPT

Complete the worksheet first. Then paste your approved answers under this prompt.

I completed a Shopify onboarding plan. Use only the offer details and customer promises I provide below.

Turn my plan into:
1. a four-message free-to-paid email sequence,
2. a post-purchase onboarding sequence using only the messages that genuinely deserve to exist,
3. a list of the Shopify triggers, customer states and purchase checks I need.

For each email include objective, recommended timing, subject line, preview text, body structure, primary CTA, destination and the condition under which the email should not be sent.

Do not invent product capabilities, testimonials, scarcity, urgency or customer results.

7. Translate the approved plan into Shopify with Sidekick

Review my current Shopify setup before changing anything.

I want to implement this journey:
Visitor → free signup → four-message free-user onboarding → purchase check → qualifying paid purchase → post-purchase onboarding.

Use my approved plan below and identify which Shopify Forms, customer tags, customer segments, Shopify Messaging automations and Flow workflows already exist and can be reused.

Tell me what needs to be changed and what must be created.

Requirements:
- eligible free users enter the prospect journey,
- existing purchasers do not enter the prospect sales path for the product they already own,
- before each delayed sales-oriented message, re-check purchase state,
- qualifying purchase exits the prospect path,
- purchase starts the correct post-purchase journey,
- prevent duplicate entry and overlapping journeys,
- explain every trigger, wait, condition, branch, segment and exclusion before I approve it.

Do not activate anything until testing is complete.
Do not invent product IDs, forms, tags, segments or workflows.

8. Human QA before activation

Save your completed plan as a PDF

Mac: press Command + P. Windows: press Ctrl + P. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF or your browser's equivalent.

Suggested filename: shopify-onboarding-plan-[offer-name].pdf

Before printing, expand any response box that contains more text than is visible. These answers are entered locally in your browser and are not submitted to Jack Righteous from this worksheet.

APPLY COMPLETE

You built one. Now make it reusable.

NEED SHOPIFY FIRST?

Build the plan on the platform, not only on paper.

Shopify currently offers eligible new users a 3-day free trial, followed by $1/month for the first 3 months on most plans before standard pricing applies.

That gives you a very low-cost window to put this onboarding system into a real store and learn by building.

Affiliate disclosure: Jack Righteous may earn a commission from an eligible signup at no additional cost to you. Shopify controls eligibility, currency, plan availability, standard pricing and final signup terms.
