Your First 20 Minutes With an AI Learning Companion

Use one concept to make one creative decision you can explain. No experience test, no long questionnaire, and no requirement to publish your work.

Choose Sound, Voice, or Brand. The same learning method works whether you're new to AI, experienced creatively, or both.

Start the 20-minute session

Set up once. Start making progress.

This first session builds on the free AI Learning Companion prompt. Open that guide, copy its full starter instructions into your AI chat, then come back and select one project route below. If you've already saved the prompt, use your existing conversation.

Minutes 0–3

Prepare

Choose one current project and one question. Use only material you have permission to share. A description is enough; you don't have to upload a private draft or recording.

Minutes 3–8

Understand

Ask for one plain-language explanation and one concrete example relevant to your project. Tell the assistant what it may and may not assume.

Minutes 8–15

Try

Make the creative choice yourself. Submit your attempt for focused feedback; ask it to identify one strength and one specific improvement rather than replacing your work.

Minutes 15–20

Check and save

Explain your decision in your own words. Save your result, why you chose it, and the next useful step. If you're not sure yet, switch to a simpler example and try again.

You control the pace. The times are a suggested structure, not a test. If you need extra support, ask “Walk Me Through one step at a time.” If the assistant gives too much information, say “Short answer, one example, then wait.”

Choose one route for today

You don't have to complete three paths. Pick the one that matches the project you're actually building. Each prompt is designed to teach a small concept, elicit an original learner decision, and check understanding.

01 · Find Your Sound

Choose a sound direction for one track or demo.

Tell the companion about your project:

I’m developing one song or demo. I know what I want it to feel like, but I’m unsure how to describe the sound direction. I have [my current tools or no specific tools].

Use this first-session request:

Help me compare two possible directions for one track. Explain how rhythm, energy, and instrumentation could support the feeling I want. Show one concrete example, then ask me to write my own one-sentence sound direction. Do not generate a full song or assume you have heard audio.

Your take-away: One sentence describing the listener experience, and two creative choices that support it.

Check: Can you explain why those choices fit the intended listener experience?

02 · Find Your Voice

Turn a theme into one line worth developing.

Tell the companion about your project:

I’m working on [lyrics / a story / a script]. My rough idea is [one sentence]. I want help learning how to communicate it clearly while keeping my own voice.

Use this first-session request:

Show me how to turn a broad theme into one specific moment or message. Give me a short fictional example that is clearly yours, then ask me to write two lines in my own words. Offer feedback on clarity and imagery, but do not rewrite my work unless I ask.

Your take-away: Two original lines or a story moment, plus one editing decision you made.

Check: Can you explain the feeling or meaning you want someone else to receive?

03 · Find Your Brand

Clarify your creative identity without locking it in forever.

Tell the companion about your project:

I’m building a creator identity for [a project / music / storytelling / a service]. I have experience with [what I know], and I’m new to [what I’m learning].

Use this first-session request:

Help me understand the difference between a creator identity, the audience it serves, and a public promise. Show one neutral example, then ask me to write a one-sentence identity statement for my own project. Help me refine it using one question at a time. Do not pick a niche or publish anything for me.

Your take-away: One provisional identity statement and one audience or purpose decision.

Check: Can you explain who the identity is for and what you want them to recognize?

Did the session help you learn?

A good session is not measured by how much the AI wrote. It is measured by what you can explain and do afterward.

  1. Understand: What did you learn? Write it in one sentence.
  2. Apply: What did you decide or create yourself?
  3. Explain: Why does it fit your creative goal?
  4. Continue: What is your next smallest useful move?
Review my first session as a learning coach, not a content generator. Ask me these four questions one at a time: What did I understand? What did I make or decide? Why does it fit? What is my next smallest move? Be constructive and specific. Do not grade me or rewrite my work unless I ask.

Optional feedback about this training

If you share feedback with Jack Righteous, three useful questions are: What did you try? Where did the explanation stop making sense? What would have helped you do the task independently? Please do not send confidential drafts or private third-party work just to provide feedback.
