Rights & Provenance Clearance

WHERE YOU ARE: The audio is technically finished and organized. Before you build artwork, metadata and a campaign around it, document what this exact recording contains, who contributed, which tools were involved and what permissions or restrictions matter.

YOU SHOULD ALREADY HAVE

Your approved master, Master Manifest, Final Edit Record and Lead Version Record. If this candidate already passed MAKE IT, MEAN IT, Voice PACKAGE or Sound PACKAGE, also bring the contribution, source, voice/likeness, AI-use and provenance records already created there.

Reuse → Validate → Add. Do not retype evidence that already exists. Link or reference the upstream record, verify that it applies to this exact final master, then add only missing evidence or final-master-specific clearance.

IMPORT UPSTREAM EVIDENCE FIRST

  • MAKE IT → MEAN IT Handoff Record: exact source/version, AI/source/collaborator provenance location, protected musical traits and known limitations.
  • MEAN IT records: Voice Anchor, Song Meaning Control, Artist Voice Foundation, Current Song Voice Addendum, VERIFY history, narrator/biography boundaries and any voice-source/consent notes.
  • Voice PACKAGE: human lyric/vocal contributions, meaningful AI assistance, collaborators, voice sources/consent and source/verification locations.
  • Sound PACKAGE / existing proof files: version lineage, files, source notes, contributor records and existing permission evidence.

For each imported record, note: record name/location → what it already proves → exact master/version it applies to → what Label-Ready still must verify.

THE DECISION

Is there enough documented authority and provenance to package and potentially release this exact recording without ignoring a known rights problem?

DO THE WORK

  1. Map existing upstream records to the exact final master. Flag anything stale, incomplete or tied to a superseded version.
  2. List every human contributor and what each person contributed; reuse verified records where they already exist.
  3. Record songwriting/lyrics contributions separately from sound-recording/production contributions.
  4. Confirm the AI music tools and material account/plan context used for the relevant generation or production stages.
  5. Identify uploaded reference audio, samples, covers, interpolations, third-party lyrics, cloned/synthetic voices, likenesses or other source material that could require permission.
  6. Save collaborator approvals, split information, licenses and permissions that already exist.
  7. Document meaningful human creative decisions and transformations using existing evidence where possible rather than merely claiming “human involvement.”
  8. Run current pre-release compliance/copyright screening appropriate to the exact master. Treat screening as risk detection, not a legal guarantee.
  9. Resolve or classify every remaining gap Red, Yellow or Green.
RED · DO NOT ADVANCEKnown permission, ownership, identity/voice, sample or commercial-use problem that must be resolved.
YELLOW · DOCUMENT / MITIGATEUncertainty that does not automatically stop the project but needs a deliberate decision or evidence.
GREEN · ADVANCENo known unresolved issue prevents the recording from entering professional packaging.

SAVE THIS

Complete the Label-Ready Song Master Packet: lead version record, final edit record, master manifest, contribution record, AI/source provenance record, rights/permissions evidence and Red/Yellow/Green clearance decision. The packet may reference validated upstream JR records instead of duplicating their contents.

DO NOT ADVANCE IF

  • A contributor or ownership relationship is materially disputed.
  • You knowingly used protected source material, a voice/likeness or a commercial-use route that requires permission you do not have.
  • You cannot identify which recording your rights notes apply to.
  • An upstream evidence record applies to a materially different version and has not been revalidated.
  • You are treating a similarity/copyright checker as proof of legal clearance.

READY TO CONTINUE WHEN

The exact master and its evidence belong together, upstream records have been validated where reused, and no unresolved Red issue makes professional packaging irresponsible.

PHASE 1 COMPLETE · NEXT

Your controlled master now advances into professional packaging.

Do not reopen the master casually. Phase 2 · PACKAGE will build identity, metadata, credits, visuals, copy and release organization around this exact cleared recording.
