Halloween Uber Driving: Passenger Rides vs Food Delivery

Jack Righteous • Halloween 2026 comparison • Updated October 21, 2026
Should you drive passengers or deliver food on Halloween night? They are two different Uber opportunities, with different entry requirements, risks and operating costs. With Halloween landing on Saturday, October 31, 2026, here is how I'd compare them before committing to a shift.

Halloween Uber Driver vs Uber Eats: side-by-side

|---|---|---|
| Onboarding | Eligible four-door passenger vehicle, city rideshare rules, screening and insurance | Delivery-mode eligibility, screening and app approval; Shop & Deliver requires its own eligibility |

Qualify for the right work before you compare
Uber passenger driving in Canada generally requires an eligible four-door vehicle, an accepted licence, screening and the rideshare rules of the city where you plan to pick up riders. Uber Eats delivery may allow different vehicles or modes and has separate onboarding requirements. Not every delivery courier can immediately carry passengers.
Check Uber Canada passenger-driving eligibility and the Canadian province and city requirements directory. If you do not qualify for passenger rides, treat that as a different future option—not something to attempt before approval.
Passenger rides: possible nightlife demand, different work
Saturday-night Halloween parties, restaurant visits and events may create passenger trips. But late-night driving can mean crowded legal pickup areas, longer approaches, road closures and passengers who need extra care. Do not assume fare increases or a busy app make every trip worthwhile.
- Check your city-specific licence, vehicle, insurance and inspection requirements before accepting riders.
- Assess legal pickup points, traffic restrictions and unpaid travel to a rider.
- Use only approved trip procedures and report unsafe conduct or conditions through the app when appropriate.
- Stop the shift if fatigue, weather or impaired road users make safe driving difficult.
Uber Eats: dinner, convenience and shopping requests
Halloween food demand may shift toward homes, gatherings and party areas. Eligible Shop & Deliver couriers may also see convenience or shopping offers where that service is available. But restaurant delays, groceries and apartment access change the time required for each completed request.
- Verify which restaurants are open and whether delivery pickup locations are accessible.
- Evaluate the time spent waiting for food, finding shopping items and driving between zones.
- Be extra cautious around children trick-or-treating and crowded residential streets.
- Skip unsafe parking or drop-offs. A slightly faster delivery is not worth a collision or a ticket.

A fair comparison: calculate your profit per online hour
Passenger trips and deliveries may have different fees and vehicle costs, but the comparison method should be consistent: (gross earnings including tips − estimated operating costs) ÷ total time online. Keep temporary sign-up or quest promotions separate.
- Track time online including unpaid pickup, food-preparation and waiting time.
- Track kilometres, fuel or charging, parking, tolls, depreciation and repairs where applicable.
- For rideshare, include applicable insurance and inspection expenses in your overall assessment.
- Compare similar periods—not one excellent passenger fare against a full evening of deliveries.
