Instant vs Professional
Instant Voice Cloning is the faster route for creating a usable clone from source audio. Professional Voice Cloning is the higher-fidelity training route and currently requires verification. Under current ElevenLabs rules, Professional Voice Clones can only be used to clone your own voice.
Source-audio checklist
- Use the cleanest recording possible.
- Reduce background noise, room echo and clipping.
- Keep the speaking style representative of the output you want.
- Do not bury the voice under music or effects.
- For a professional clone, provide enough varied clean speech for the model to learn the voice reliably; current ElevenLabs guidance recommends substantial high-quality source material rather than a tiny sample.
QA the clone
- Test ordinary narration.
- Test difficult names and phonemes.
- Test emotional range.
- Test the language/accent the project actually needs.
- Compare against the source for identity drift and artifacts.
Rights record
Keep a simple project note showing who owns the voice, what source recordings were used and what permission applies. Do not rely on the existence of a technical cloning feature as proof of permission.
