Define Your Sound Before You Prompt
The prompt should implement a musical decision. It should not be where you first decide what the music is.
Outcome
Create a one-page Sound Target that guides prompting, comparison and revision.

These are fill-in placeholders, not literal Suno commands. Replace them with the decisions that matter to your project.
Producer specification: what these fields actually control
- Tempo / BPM range: enough precision to define motion without pretending one BPM guarantees identity.
- Meter / groove / pocket: straight, swung, behind-the-beat, urgent, half-time, syncopated, sparse or another audible rhythmic relationship.
- Harmonic color / tension: bright/dark is not enough; describe stability, suspension, unresolved movement, modal color or harmonic pace when it matters.
- Instrument roles: state what an instrument does—pulse, counterline, texture, hook, low-end anchor—not merely that it exists.
- Vocal behavior: register, density, proximity, grit, restraint, phrasing and how intensity changes by section.
- Arrangement-density arc: where the record gains or loses layers, width, motion and performance intensity.
- Hook function: melodic hook, rhythmic hook, repeated lyric phrase, riff or production motif.
- Production / space: front-to-back depth, width, dryness/wetness, transient feel, low-end weight and intimacy/scale.
Separate identity from preference
Every target should be sorted into three levels:
CAN FLEX = variation is allowed and may be desirable
DISQUALIFIER = strong evidence the generation has left the intended lane
This prevents a common advanced-user failure: writing a highly detailed brief where every adjective is treated as equally important. A producer needs hierarchy. Your three strongest identity variables should carry more weight than ten decorative descriptors.
Neutral example: soulful reggae
Example — not your worksheet.
[EMOTIONAL JOB] reflective reassurance that grows into communal resolve
[PRIMARY GENRE / SUBGENRE] contemporary roots reggae with subtle soul influence
[TEMPO / GROOVE] relaxed one-drop pocket; unhurried forward motion
[CORE INSTRUMENT ROLES] warm bass as low-end anchor; offbeat guitar as pulse; organ as sustained texture; natural drums with space
[VOCAL CHARACTER] intimate low male lead; conversational verses; stronger but controlled chorus
[ARRANGEMENT-DENSITY ARC] sparse verse → wider chorus with backing-vocal lift
[PRODUCTION / SPACE] warm, organic, spacious, restrained top-end gloss
[MUST KEEP] bass/groove relationship, intimate vocal, organic space
[CAN FLEX] exact BPM, organ density, backing-vocal count
[DISQUALIFIERS] glossy EDM drops, hyper-busy drums, novelty effects
Case Study: Borja / Dante9
Borja · Dante 9th
Borja is the creator behind Dante 9th, a Spanish-language virtual rock project moving through melodic alternative rock, post-grunge and pop-rock, with clean-to-heavy guitar dynamics, vulnerable male vocals and emotionally direct songwriting.
Featured album: Mi Divina Comedia
Borja's target becomes more useful when it describes relationships rather than a pile of genre words:
[TEMPO / GROOVE] steady mid-tempo forward motion; grounded live-band pocket
[HARMONIC COLOR] tension should feel emotionally unresolved rather than celebratory
[INSTRUMENT ROLES] clean spacious guitars create verse air; layered distorted guitars create chorus density; bass/drums remain grounded rather than flashy
[VOCAL] vulnerable grounded male lead; conversational restraint in verses; urgency and controlled grit in hooks
[DENSITY ARC] reflective verse → rising pre-chorus → broad melodic chorus
[HOOK FUNCTION] memorable chorus melody with emotionally direct Spanish phrasing
[PRODUCTION / SPACE] modern polished rock, human band feel, controlled stereo width
[MUST KEEP] grounded vocal + clean-to-heavy guitar arc + emotional ambiguity
[CAN FLEX] exact tempo, guitar tone, bridge design
[DISQUALIFIERS] metal screaming, cheerful pop sheen, excessive synth leads, over-busy percussion
Existing Dante9 songs such as Mírame should be treated as internal evidence: identify what already feels recognizably Dante9 before asking V6 for something new.
Completion gate
