Before You Upload AI Music to Spotify with DistroKid: Release Preflight 2026

This is the checkpoint between deciding to distribute and actually filling in the DistroKid upload form. Your job here is to confirm the release package is ready enough that the upload does not create avoidable rights, metadata, artwork, AI-credit or version-control problems.

USE THE RIGHT ROAD

Still deciding whether DistroKid fits? Start with DistroKid for AI Music in 2026: Is It the Right Fit for Your Release?.

Decision made, but the release package is not fully documented? Use the C$5 AI Music Proof Record to capture the exact release, evidence and distributor-prep record.

Want guided DistroKid execution? Members can continue into the DistroKid Member Release Pack 2026 for the provider-specific upload record, AI Credits decisions, identifiers, correction log and live verification.

CURRENT AI CREDIT CHECK

DistroKid now asks what AI actually generated

DistroKid's current upload guidance asks whether any part of a track was generated by AI. If yes, the AI Credits choices include lyrics, music, all of the audio, or part of the audio. If you select all of the audio, DistroKid also asks whether the artist name represents a human or an AI persona.

DistroKid says AI Credits are appropriate for AI-generated audio, lyrics or composition. It says you do not need AI Credits merely because you used pitch correction, AI-assisted mixing/mastering or another AI-assisted workflow that did not generate the underlying track content.

Do this before opening the form: decide which categories accurately describe the finished track and save that decision in the release record. AI Credits can also be added or updated after upload.

The release preflight sequence

  1. Lock the creative version. Confirm the composition, lyrics, structure and performance decisions are intentional.
  2. Run the human-quality check. Listen for vocal believability, pronunciation, timing, transitions, generation artifacts and weak sections.
  3. Repair the source before mastering. Fix the actual problem rather than polishing the wrong version.
  4. Select and archive the final master. Keep a clean backup and a version name you can identify later.
  5. Clear the source chain. Document the AI tool and plan that applied, uploaded audio, samples, voices, collaborators and artwork.
  6. Lock the metadata. Finalize artist name, title, version, credits, explicit status, artwork and intended release date.
  7. Prepare the AI Credits answer. Record whether AI generated lyrics, music, all audio or part audio, and whether an all-AI-audio artist name represents a human or AI persona.
  8. Confirm DistroKid still fits the job. Make sure the selected route and plan support the release requirements you identified.
  9. Know how you will answer the submission questions. Rights, contributor and AI-related answers should be based on records you already have, not guesses made inside the upload form.
  10. Define the post-delivery checks. Know that you will verify artist mapping, playback, artwork, metadata and live links after stores publish the release.

Do not confuse distribution with quality control

DistroKid delivers a release. It does not repair an artificial vocal, awkward lyric, weak transition, muddy mix or accidental ending. If the audio is the blocker, use the Human-Quality Pass before uploading.

What should be saved before submission?

  • final master and backup;
  • lyrics and final artwork;
  • AI tool, creation date and applicable plan/terms record;
  • uploaded audio, sample and voice permissions;
  • human contribution and collaborator notes;
  • final artist/title/credit metadata;
  • AI Credits decision: lyrics / music / all audio / part audio, as applicable;
  • if all audio is AI-generated, whether the artist name is a human identity or AI persona;
  • chosen distributor and plan;
  • planned release date and campaign destination;
  • a place to save the later submission confirmation, UPC, ISRC and live links.

PREFLIGHT VERDICT

READY TO UPLOAD

Move forward when the master, artwork, source/rights record, metadata, credits, AI Credit decisions and release date are all clear enough to enter without improvising.

HOLD

Do not open the form just to see what happens if you still have unresolved ownership, collaborator, source, artwork, version, metadata or AI-generation questions. Resolve the blocker first.

FREE → PAID EXECUTION

You now know what DistroKid needs. The paid layer is where you record the release.

This free preflight is meant to get you to a clean decision. The C$5 AI Music Proof Record gives you one fillable record for the release. Members can go further with the DistroKid Member Release Pack, which guides the exact provider-specific handoff: AI Credits, upload evidence, identifiers, correction tracking and live-store verification.

After the upload

When the upload is complete, verify Spotify artist mapping, playback, artwork, metadata, AI Credits where displayed, UPC/ISRC and live links. DistroKid says AI Credits can also be updated after upload. Record those delivery results in the AI Music Proof Record, then use the Release Command Center to keep the active release visible.

Clarification. You’re not a musician. You write prompts into Ai music generator. One doesn’t even need to spell correctly. Ai will fix that as well. You’re simply gaming the system, thereby ruining an already failing Music Industry. You’re what’s wrong with technology. Don’t fool yourself. You’re not fooling anyone
